Ok, so I have skinning and leatherworking maxed out at this point. I am wondering whether it is a good idea to try a second crafting profession to replace skinning since I never sell skins - only use them for making various armor kits and then only rarely. I really only make money these days from daily questing and I could start primal farming to supplement. I was debating replacing skinning with alchemy. Is this a good idea or is it more trouble than it is worth? Alchemy only takes a few hundred gold to level to 300 - not sure how much to level past that.

I wouldn't ever take two crafting professions aside from enchanting (if you want to call it that) although I would only use it for DEing. That is unless I was making a twink.

If you have alts that can supply your gathering needs I think its perfectly fine. That's what I do

If you want to know if its good for the money i say no way

Its al about the fun, do you like it then do it but dont expect it to be cheap, you still need it to max out some day and you know how hard (expensive) those last 5 points are.

The craftings are good for the high end BoP items but its not worth the effort and money to lvl a new one just for those items imo.

The two crafting proffessions seems like it would be good if you were at that point in the game when you're just sitting on your gold and want something to do between raiding/PvP/dancing naked on mailboxes or whatever you're doing. You can always buy mats from the AH, but theres always that risk that noone puts any mats up for a long time or that the mats are ridiculously overpriced... "WTS Copper bar x10 Bid starts at 50g"...

My main (and only source of income) is a Leatherworker/Engineer, and I'm rolling in dough. The secondary professions can be quite profitable if you have the time and patience. Fishing keeps my bank full of pots and my guild well-fed, and only takes a few hours a week to do so.

Thanks for your responses. I have fishing/cooking maxed out as well. You are exactly right - I AM looking for something else to do with the character and I figure that I can make money between daily quests (I have both Ogri'la and Netherwing so I can do 10 a day if necessary) farming primals, fishing and cooking. I thought about Engineering but I am leaning towards Alchemy.

Before you drop skinning it might be a good idea to have an alt skinner. When the expansion comes along with the new higher level leather goodies you don't want to have to buy your mats to make them.

i would almost consider making another character instead. i know that wasn't an option you mentioned, but LW and skinning are a good complementary skill set, and since you have them maxed, you may like to keep them.

knothide isn't the only leather type that you can farm. the fel hide, wind scales, and some other one i forgot, are nice leather types to get.

occasionally, i farm the basilisks for their meat and fel hides. the cooked meat sells very well, and i get fel hides and knothide all at the same time.

if you no longer need the clefthoof leather, that is a good money item also.
