Mining or skinning?Follow

#1 Sep 24 2007 at 5:31 AM Rating: Decent
I've be curious lately as i've been checking AH, seeing that a stack of heavy clefthoof leather go for around 70g on my server. But adamantite goes for around 30g . I see many people saying mining makes the most gold of all gathering professions, By having gatherer its easy to scout for ores around outlands maps.

Then this forces me to think. With everyone having that mind-set, wont it be a challenge getting to the ores before others do?
However skinning is plentiful. And its a constant flow of gold. Besides killing beast isn't too boring, and you could get greens if you're lucky.

But, I may be wrong

Tell me bout it. Hm.

Understand that Thick Clefthoof leather is not a 100% drop, the average ranges around 10 to 15 percent, so you might spend more time hunting and killing clefthoofs.

The clefthoof drop rate, while not horrendous, is still fairly poor. It also requires that you kill clefthoofs, where as ore can be obtained simply by flying around and finding the nodes, a task that is made much easier once you have a flying mount, and doubly so once you have an epic flying mount.

Yes, I know that you often have to clear some mobs to get to a mineral node, but there's no killing involved in the actual harvest of the goods.

I'm starting to regret my choice of mining to get an epic mount, flying around at 60% speed sucks on a high pop server. Many, many miners have their epic flyers, so I'm at a pretty big disadvantage.

Sort of debating the switch to skinning, because (A) I actually enjoy killing things (imagine that) and (B) I have maxed out cooking, so I could kill tons of beasts to skin (AOE ftw), and also get special meat to cook, like the +spell damage food, or +agility, stuff like that.

I'm going to give it a shot on the test realm, just level 1 to about 150-200 or so, see how fast skinning takes to level. I imagine its incredibly fast assuming you're in the right area.

Currently I have herbalism and mining, and I make far more off herbalism. I think my server is just ridiculously overcrowded with miners.

Skinning any day mate. You get XP from killing beasts, drops, food plus the leather. On top of that there are loads of non-skinners out there who have to leave perfectly good hides lying around. Also there are usually easy to find people on beast-killing quests who'll let you skin their kills if you help out with the quest.

Gold city, I love it.
