Any class with a pet (Warlock/Hunter) is good for farming. I guess it all depends on what you're farming. I've seen my friend (mage) clear huge mobs in a matter of seconds that would take my loc very long to clear. On the contrary I can kill very powerful elites 1 on 1 that he can't even touch. Mages can conjur water and food so you save money in the long run if you farm for a very long time. However, a loc who knows what they're doing should never have to rest. Simply life tap for mana and then drain life from the target while your pet holds aggro and repeat. This allows you to grind continuasly. Let's face it, the worst part of grinding is sitting down and waiting for your character to eat or drink. Rogues are also nice because they regain energy quickly and you have many escape routes if you aggro too much. As for druids, shamans, priests and paladins I would stay away from them if you're planning to grind :P.

One word: Stealth.

I don't care how fast you kill stuff, I'll always be faster because I get to just walk past. It also takes a maximum of 12 seconds for a Rogue to regenerate energy, and it's damn near impossible to die as a Rogue when farming (it can be done, though). Druids are nice as well, as they have all the nifty bonuses of stealth, but can heal themselves too.

Any class can gather effectively. Use the one you like best. Gathering is no fun at all if you play a class that doesn't suit you or your play style.

Hunter, your pet can tank adds while you gather, and in the early levels you aspect of the cheetah for movement speed increase while you run around looking for herbs/minerals. Rogues are only fastest in caves and high level areas. Once you get a mount its about the same for everyone, rogues have an advantage gathering from the back of a camp, hunters/locks have an advantage of pets tanking while gathering. Hunters are even better because they can just feign death to drop combat, wait for the pat to go away, then mount up and leave. Overall I'd say hunter or rogue, maybe a druid or shaman in the early levels since you get travel form or ghost wolf.

Paladins can be pretty good farmers too especially 62+ with Crusader aura (120% ground mount FTW) and as a tankadin you can round up 4-5 things and kill em relatively easily, especially if you spec into holy a bit so with concentration aura you probably won't get interrupted by damage healing yourself. Mass killing and swiftly moving from node to node, especially if your paladin is a smith like mine, can make life that much easier.

All are equal, but hunters can already make use of their track abilities by searching for humanoids, undead, demons, animals, and others, so having one more track ability is less desirable(in an economic standpoint).

I thought this topic is about gathering...
If so then why the discussion about which class to get for farming?

My warrior is an excellent gatherer ..
My priest is an excellent gatherer ..
My mage and lock same story
hunter i dont have but i think they shine equally when it comes to gathering stuff
And ofc those i didn't mentioned.

For HERBALISM, I prefer a Druid because druids have travel form which lets them move at +30% speed without dismounting and mounting again to get more herbs.

Now that my feral druid is getting higher in dps and crit, I really enjoy farming/gathering with the druid. Like others said, he has the heal ability. Another thing I find useful is the humanoid tracking, in contested zones. Most of time I may have another track on but if I know someone is in the area, I’ll switch to humanoid.

Instant flight also helps in some cases, when you just want to wait out the patrolling mob before getting back to the item you were gathering.

If you need to escape but are in battle already, cheetah gives you a prolonged speed, or bear lets you take a beating as you beat it out of the area.

If I farm things under water, like elementals or water herbs, then water form lets me regain breath without panicking and rushing up to the surface.

I'd say something with a pet maybe to keep aggro, but that wouldn't last long. Something with a speed boost like shaman or hunter for fast gathering, rogue's stealth would be great, a mage's polymorph would be good to get past things. All classes have some use, just pick your favorite

none really have any advantage aside from stealthing past. And in crowded areas this is very useful (until flying mounts levels the playing field at least).

gathering is gathering. taruen have +15 to herbalism, but that really doesn't amount to much. any kind of racial bonus quicly become moot. But you would be able to pick mageroyal at an earlier stage. But if you pick everything you see, it's not really an issue.

As mentioned rogue/druid stealth past mobs. Good for chests as well :). sometimes I feel bad when doing it. I had a hunter steal a iron ore from my rogue I was mining (I got first pop, but he got second and third). Yeah I stealthed past, so I couldn't be too pissed. But I was happy when he jumped off a ledge, pet took long ways around, pet broght in 3 adds, dead pet, next thing was a dead hunter.
