Is there any way to farm Arcane Dust for higher level tailoring? Or do you just get stuck paying for it?

Arcane dust comes from disenchanting, so if you play an enchanter, yes you can farm greens for it. If you are not an enchanter, then either ask a friend who is to DE your greens for you, or just buy it off the AH.

make your level 60-65 stuff, disenchant it (you or someone else), use it for your 65+ stuff.

or, do as the above post said.

Make an alt. Teach him/her enchanting. Send all greens and blues you won't use for D/E.

Note: this alt will need to have at least 225 enchanting for level 60+ items, and at least 275 for 65+ items. And it doesn't help your soulbound items at all.

The best thing would have been to DE any and all greens that you came across while questing/grinding. I did this and now have 15 or so stacks of dust sitting in my bank waiting to be used up for imbued netherweave and to level up my enchanting. Apparently there is a rod that needs to be created at 290 as well as 300. Seems kind of silly to me.

edit - spelling.

Yeah, I read that you can't just make an alt anymore and not level it. Apparently it used to be that way but now you need to level the alt.

Should I drop 340 skill skinning and take up enchanting? Enchanting has semi-confused me so I'm not sure what to do here.

You might as well just buy the Arcane Dust. It costs quite a bit, both in terms of time and/or gold to level your enchanting to 225+. It's a matter of opportunity cost.

Of course, if you plan on using Enchanting to make gold, do enchants for yourself and others then it's a good idea. Otherwise, nah.

It took me 2 VC runs, 5g and 2 days to get my level 20 alt to 225 enchanting.
I could go over that easily if I didnt find it hassle to level her to 35 atm. She got me a small fortune with DEing so far.

225 seemed pretty easy to me; the recipes don't take many materials, and the items you buy to d/e are cheap and you can sell the extra materials for profit.

What killed me was the period from around 240 to 275. I just finished that grind today, and boy oh boy, I spent around 150-200g for those last 20 points.

Then again, I d/ed multiple bags worth of quest gear I had no use for, and now have several stacks of Arcane Dust, a stack or two of planar essences, and two prismatic shards, so I actually made it back and extra; and now I can make my Smoking Heart of the Mountain!

QFT. There is a level restriction for those enchanting levels, too. In order to get to 275 enchanting, your alt would have to be leveled to 35. So you'd have to spend a bit of time with the alt. Whether bgredsox's plan would be viable depends on Jedius' persistence. It could take a bit of time before the disenchanter would be ready to supply the dusts. ...oh, and some level 70 items require an enchanting skill of 300.

you could tip an enchanter to DE greens for you.

bid/buy uncommon armor lvl 64-70 from AH for 3g or less
on trade channel, advertise "LF enchanter 275+ to DE items. will tip"
(do NOT advertise with simply "LF enchanter")

party with disenchanter to see what he gets from the DEing
(each item DE's into 2-5 arcane dust, or an occasional essence)

TIP YOUR DISENCHANTER

your arcane dust will end up costing you about 2g each. does that save you any money?

I used to ask an enchanter friend to DE outland greens for me (easy and cheap way to fund the enchants I needed) but it was often a pain because I could easily have 40-50 items to DE (I didn't want to bother him too often).

I had a lvl 20 or so mage from back when I tried that class, getting to 225 indeed took me only a couple of days and was very cheap. The grind to 35 was a bit painful (although I started enjoying playing my mage more and more) and then I quickly leveled enchanting to around 260. The rest (to 275) was a pain and quite expensive, so I looked at it as a long term investment (I can easily have ~20 greens to DE every week, and I of course play the AH farming game). I wouldn't advise this solution for somebody who wants to DE a few items to get cheap mats. Also, I recommend a class that can easily level tp 35 on auto-pilot (I think hunters and rogues qualify :)

I have not yet seen a BoE item that required 275 skill. Maybe only some epic BoP items?

I believe that items that require level 65 or greater need to be disenchanted with 275+ skill. My mage has been sitting at about 268 DEing all the BOE's I send from my warrior. Once the 65+ items started coming I have not been able to DE them.

Just grind nagrad, nether, shadow for greens and diss (yourself or a friend)

I got 35 arcane dust in a few hours just by farming motes (air, water, fire)

For example my alt stopped at 225 as she is still 29, and she can only DE up to 63 included.
