I don't know what level you are (assuming 70...) maybe try winterspring or un'goro.

Basically you just divide your skinning skill by 5 and you get the lvl of the mobs you need to skin.

275 / 5 = 55

So I guess you should try skinning junk in un'goro or....uhh.... un'goro is all that comes to mind right now.

As for Rare skins there really aren't any. Rugged hides used to fetch a good price but with TBC out you really don't need anything it's used in.

Fel Hides and Crystal Infused Leather is pretty much all you get for "rare" hides. (they just have an annoying drop rate, they're not actually rare or anything)

Although I haven't done it yet (only lvl 68 and not found the cobras yet), I hear that cobra scales are a hot ticket in skinning.

Leatherworkers can use them to make the Cobrahide Leg Armor (+40 AP, +10 Crit Strike) as well as a couple Cobra armors (glvoes and head).

I think Thick Clefthoof skins would probably be hot tickets as well. Leatherworkers can make Nethercleft Leg Armor (+40 STA, +12 AGI) as well as a bunch of Clefthoof armors.

Un'Goro and Silithius are great places to level up your skinning. I was in the 350 skill range before I even set foot in Outlands at lvl 58.

At 275 your best bet for leveling skinning is Sunken Temple. An almost guaranteed point per skin off the dragonkin in there. I leveled to 300 in there, lots of green dragon scales that sell very well and you'll get your skinning up to a level where (when you're ready) you can skin clefthoof and knothide leather (that's the money boy).

Cobra scales ARE great money, but the drop rate is horrific and the mobs few and heavily farmed. I once spent an entire day just trying to get cobra scales, killed maybe two dozen, all the while racing other farmers to the snakes and never got a single scale.

It was shortly after that when I switched my skinning to alchemy, but that was mainly out of boredom not because skinning isn't profitable.

Head to Winterspring and grind skinning on the yetis or the panthers.

Once you hit 300, Outlands ahoy.
