how many guardian buffs can i have at the same time?
how long is the cooldown after i take a guardian pot before i can take another?
is there a limit to how many guardian pots i can have?
whats the difference between a guardian pot and a battle pot?
are there any exceptions to the cooldown rules or exceptions to anything?
whats the cooldown for battle pots?

any other information would be GREATLY apritiated, i really need to know how they work, it is rather confusing for me, sorry for my newbness. my main is a 270 Alchemy and 300 herby.

You can only have one Battle and one Guardian elixir active at a time. If you drink one of either type, drinking a different one of the same type will overwrite the first one. There IS a cooldown on drinking elixirs. It lasts 10 seconds.

Typically, Guardian elixirs are elixirs that have some defensive property, such as Draenic Wisdom (increases Int and Spi by 30) or Major Defense (increases armor by 550). Battle elixirs are more offensive-oriented, like Adept's (increases spellpower and spell crit by 24) or Healing Power (I really think this one is Battle so that a Guardian type can be mixed with it).

i went browsing through the alchemy potions to find which ones i could use without tripping my cooldown on mana potions, only to find a bunch that "count as battle and guardian elixir" and that mana potions aren't labeled as either...

are mana potions battle or guardian elixirs?

They are potions, not elixirs. And their cooldown is different.
Those that count as both battle and guardian elixir are called flasks.

You can have 1 guardian and 1 battle elixir on or 1 flask. Mana and healing potions you can use no matter what elixir or flask you have on.

Elixirs in general last 1 hour, flasks 2 hours and persist through death, mana and healing potions are one time usage to restore certain amount of your mp/hp.

Potions either have an immediate effect {heal life, restore mana/rage] or a temporary effect like swiftness, lesser stonesheild and free action potions.

Elixers give you a buff to stats, abilities, damage, an additional ability like felstrength, frostpower and dreamvision/waterbreathing. They are either defensive or offensive in nature

Flasks are very powerful elixers that last 2 hours and last even if you die. They take up both the defensive and offensive slots and give you a huge boost to a stat, ability or a great ability.
