Drop Skinning for Tailoring>Follow

#1 Aug 28 2007 at 1:57 PM Rating: Decent
My Druid has just switched to Enchant so I can DE items, and his other Prof is Skinning which is at 160. Would it be dumb to drop skinning now for Tailoring, or is that a good way to use up cloth and get Enchanting supplies for use/sell.

Thanks in advance. I swear this is my last Prof question for a long time :-)

I vote no one this one :) Unless you are going to use the level 70 BoP tailoring items?

Sell your cloth, sell your leather, buy cheap greens from the AH to disenchant to get your mats you need to level up enchanting, and to sell.

If you are going to pick a profession you might as well pick one that you can use. I don't see why as a druid you would pick something like tailoring or [for example] blacksmithing. Nice itmes? Yes. Can you use them/are they better than what you can get? Most likely not. I would stick with the professions that will net you money until around 70 then drop one and level up a crafting profession that will best suit your playing style.

I'm 375 Tailoring (make what I wear), but don't make items to de. I buy all my items I de at the AH, then sell the mats at a profit. It's fine to de items you make if you were going to be a tailor anyway, but don't be a tailor just to de.

Sell your cloth, sell your skins. If you should drop skinning, pick another gathering profession like herbalism or mining and sell that. You will make money either way.

On my main character I was a Skinning/Enchanting Rogue and due to the fact that I was enchanting all of my own gear and some gear of my guildmates at a loss I found that at level 60 I was short of G for my epic mount. It's not a money maker by far and I realized the error of my ways. I still have him around but have lost the motivation to keep leveling him due to the fact that he's so short in G.

I created a Mage and picked up herbalism and mining. It's a nice change of pace to have to go out of my way and farm the nodes as it forces me to not rush through the game and actually enjoy what I'm doing. My mage isn't even level 40 yet but have close to 200G and putting my Rogue to shame.

My advice to you is if you want to maximize your money and don't mind taking time out to farm nodes and it doesn't bother you switching tracking abilities from time to time, to use 2 gathering professions or at least 1 gathering and enchanting to D/E drops, as it will help make you money and if you really want to take up 2 crafting professions to way until you're financially stable and a high enough level to farm quality goods at an adequate pace.

I have skinning and enchanting on my warrior. Skinning is maxed out. It doesn't make too good of money until you hit thick and rugged leather, although it really depends on the server. But it does fetch a fairly good price. You'll always be killing enemies, so why not force an extra loot item off it.

As for enchanting, the other posts are right. Buying in the AH is better than crafting your own (in my opinion) not to mention all the quest items you get that you dont need.If you find yourself low on money, go run a low instance like VC or WC or SFK and DE all the items for dusts, then sell them.
