I am having an extremely hard time leveling up and/or making any money with my LW - (I have a dragonscale specialty).

I always try to have at least one each of these on the AH: toughened leather gloves, barbaric bracer and dragonscale gauntlet. Is there any other "popular" leather items I should be focused on???

My friend who is an Herbalist makes money hand over fist so I am thinking of switching.

Comments - Thoughts?

I am a level 51 with a 250 in leatherworking and 316 in skinning.

Thanks!

leatherworking really is not there for making money but to craft yourself nice BoP items for endgame at 70. You can make a bit of money with armor-kits, but besides that there aren't a lot of ways to make back the money you spend on it.

I dropped 300 dragonscale leatherworking long ago for Herbalism on my hunter.

I made a ton of money with herbalism and never looked back. Another option for you is mining. Since you are doing it just for cash, you could consider that also.

If all you want is money, do take up herbalism. But leatherworking, as are all other crafting profession, is more for self-use than for making money.

If you do want to make some money, farm some skins and put them on the AH.

I noticed you did not mention the deviate scale belt, another nice low level blue item. You might want to run Wailing caverns if you don't have the pattern, or if you do, get a couple runs for the scales so you can make those.

The thing with the low level blue LW items is that a lot of "twinks" don't take LWing for them because they are doing engineering to get the BOP items. And these items are quite good.

The Toughened gloves lasted my Rogue into his late 30s, I am still wearing the barbaric bracers at 49, until I get to 52 and use the Shadowcraft Bracers. I can see my druid and my hunter both using the belt and these other two items for quite some time.

Edit: Also, you are at 250 LWing, so you can use a salt shaker. Get one of the AH or get an engineer to make you one. I think the mats range 5-7 gold. Farm deeprock salt, use the shaker to refine it, keep a stash for your own use and then use your cooldown as often as possible and sell the refined deeprock salt on the AH.

I see a lot of comment that crafting profs are a money sink, but I tend to disagree. If you know what you have and what the demand is like, you can make money on anything, not just gathering or DEing.

One really only makes money in crafting where one has a rare pattern, better still a rare BOP pattern. The lionheart helm made a buddy a ton of money.

I've made a better profit selling the perfect deviate scales required to make that belt than selling the belt.
