need some advice/help to continue with cooking. i've done searches on this site and read through the stickies but havn't been able to find the info i require. a link to a faq/guide would be awsome if anyone knows any ^^

i am currently lvl 289 cooking and can't seem to find any good recipes to skill off except ones that require raw fish. now i know that fishing is a good skill to go along with cooking but i'm just not interested in that. after insane hours in the tedium which is fishing in FFXI, i have zero desire to ever fish in a MMO again :P

so, does anyone know of some recipes i can get from npcs that are non-fish, meat dishes? or a way to get raw fish w/o actually fishing it, other than AH? i've been checking AH for a week now for the reagents that are needed for the most recent recipes i got from the vendor in Feathermoon but there have been 0 in stock. salmon, lobster, and mightfish i believe. also there are never any recipes on AH for dishes that are over lvl 35(lvl of the product). i check everyday and i need current lvl meat dishes to keep my pet happy.

also is it possible to skill past lvl 300 cooking? havn't seen a quest for that either.

thank you for any advice or help you can give

There is a quest Desert Dumplings, low drop rate, but should get you over the hump without fishing……Other than that you are stuck with the AH or paying someone to fish for you.

This site and Thottbot lists some recipies that say go gray at 305, but don't know if I trust that... check those out too: Tender Wolf Steak; Monster Omelet; and Spiced Chili Crab

After you skill-up to 300 with Desert Dumplings, you can purchase the Master Cookbook from Baxter (Horde) and Gaston (Alliance) at the Inn in Hellfire Peninsula

Hope that helps.

Although it is green at 289, you can do Tender Wolf Steaks till 305. I found a ton of wolfies in Hinterlands.

Desert Dumplings are a good option as well since it goes to 365. The components are a bit rare though, and it requires a few quests to get the recipe.

I would suggest you take up fishing. I know you said you don't want to, but I can give a really good reason: time. Yes, time.

You can catch more fish to cook in a shorter amount of time than you can gather meat to cook. Drop rates for meat vary quite a bit and are not reliable. The same amount of time spent fishing versus killing beasts for meat will yield more fish. Of course there is an initial time investment to skill up fishing, but in the long run, this will be returned in time savings from fishing versus mob killing.

In addition to fishing being much easier to yield items to skillup cooking with, it can also be very profitable once you have a flier, 375 skill and some aquadynamic fish attractors. The easiest way to skill cooking past 350 is with fish, and usually the variety that requires flying mount access to get to; as such they can be quite profitable.

ty for the responses. i see that fishing is an important aspect of cooking lol. too bad for me. perhaps i will end up trying it >.>

i have to say though, the nice thing about meat is i just buy it on AH to cook with. i simply keep an eye on the type i need, say tender wolf meat, then i buy it all up when someone has listed a few stacks for cheap. if there are stacks for 1g or less i'll buy them all. well worth it for the time it would take to farm. that's why i like meat over fish. i can NEVER catch raw fish on the AH ; ;

oh, and i noticed you say you can take fishing to 365? where do you get the quest at lvl 300?

thanks,
Shrub

There's a master fishing book available from a guy near the CE in Zangarmarsh, he also sells a couple cooking recipes.

I wouldnt bother buying Crawdads from AH for 40g stack, and that is the only recipe you can raise cooking from 370-375 on.

Once you have your flying mount there are other ways to make more gold. But I still prefer fishing over running around and trying to find single elemental not camped by at least 3 hunters.
Its relaxing.
