And yet, ironically, the answer is still yes. Also, stop being a jackass, please, and ignore the troll. =)

Okay this has been fun to read...and I love trolls :P

Background...
I was Skin/LW up to 70. Maxxed out Skinning and then realized that I rarely ever skin anything when I need to make something I would just rather buy the leather. So I decided to give enchanting as a profession a shot. The idea of selling mats was given to me by a friend and I figured I didn't have much to lose other than gold (which I could make back the hard way if necessary) so I said wth and gave it a shot.

In one night of powerleveling I spent about 40-50g...lost track after a while and powerleveled to 225 and I'm obviously gonna powerlevel up to 300. Also, I don't really care if I have to burn some enchants on trash or free for friends (or arena guildmates or w/e) when WoTLK drops and the enchanting skill needed for DE'ing goes up past 300 (as it most certainly will). But my guild has two enchanters who pride themselves on having most of the enchants that anyone wants so I don't care to be an enchanter in the strictest sense. I am primarily looking to make money in the meantime to fund my LW to 375.

Wht can I look forward to as far as gold spent to powerlevel 225-300. Beyond that I am right to assume that people are buying cheap greens and some poorly priced blues and DE'ing them and selling mats? Are you also buying mats and reselling them at a higher price? And once you make profit from that are you using that profit to do the same thing on a larger scale until you effectively control the market of enchanting material pricing for the most part?

Or are you doing something else and my megalomaniac plan is off-base?

Thanks and I'm looking forward to rolling in enough gold to not care about the money it costs me to get my LW to 375.

Ftr, all of the production professions are expensive in one way or another. Whether it's the time you spend to farm primals and leather or the gold you spent to buy it, it will cost you. Perhaps COSTLY is the best way to describe production from 350-375.

It really depends on the server. Mike talks about his dual epic flyers from disenchanting, but I use the same strategies and don't make nearly so much. 75g on a good day for me....40-50g on an average day. I can make that grinding at the mana forges in netherstorm in less time.

Especially on a rogue. Try the disenchanting if you want. I average an hour of bidding through everything, gathering mail, disenchanting and relisting auctions everyday I do it. All for 75g max for an hours work. Its really not that great a gold maker for me, and I've been doing it for a while.

I still say the best way to make gold in this game is to go kill stuff. I don't see why people are so against this, they'll look for any other strategy to avoid simple killing.

Super healing pots - 15g a stack on my server. Blinding powder - 9g a stack. You can pickpocket all this on every kill. Keep disenchanting, for the ability to DE every green you get while grinding on humanoids (except 2h weapons which vendor for 8-11g), and use this macro while you grind

#showtooltip
/cast pick pocket
/stopcasting
/cast cheap shot

Replace cheap shot with whatever opener you use. You'll be rolling in health pots. IMO the fastest way for a dps class to earn their epic flyer or cap a profession or raise 2500g for an epic is pure grinding on the right mobs. And a rogue is simply amazing for humanoid grinding, I can't wait to get mine to 70.

Yea I just thought I would try something new. Killing mobs is always the best method.

Idk DE and playing/controlling the mats economy sounds like fun...I think I'll just make it a lil mini-game for myself.

1 x Fel Iron Rod
4 x Greater Eternal Essence
6 x Large Brilliant Shard
1 x Runed Arcanite Rod
56 x Illusion Dust
645 x Arcane Dust
96 x Greater Planar Essence
30 x Nightmare Vine
30 x Imbued Vial
1 x Adamantite Rod
128 x Large Prismatic Shards
1 x Primal Might

No matter if you SELL them or USE them...thats expensive...and thats just 300-375

Even if you pay half price using enchantix that is a substantial amount of gold.

Or you can sit around and hope someone needs something you have, which usually requires a good amount of rep gained or 10 man instances AND being the first to send them a tell.

It depends on what your goal for enchanting is. Do you want to make gold, or do you want to enchant stuff? If all you want is the gold, then your post is moot, since you do not need to be above 300 in enchanting skill for that. If you want to make stuff, then how much is the above? 10,000G? 20,000G? It doesn't really matter, because disenchanting will provide the gold for it. I suggest that you level up enchanting to 375 AFTER you have your epic flier (and epic fliers for any alts). What other things do you have to waste your gold on, anyhow?

You shouldn't count the bolded mats, since you will have so many extras of those from disenchanting that they are not worthy of mentioning.

I'm with Mike on this. I gave up actual enchanting ages ago in favour of disenchanting. My bank is FULL of Greater Planar and dust. Not to mention a few decent stacks of Large Prismatic (and small).

Why is it in my bank and not on the AH? I don't know. There's a good few thousand gold there I reckon...but I'm still tempted to raise my enchanting beyond its current 302. On the other hand, with the gold I can make I can BUY the enchant itself WAY cheaper than than I could the mats - on my server at least.

So...hmm...flying mount it is...

Thanks for this thread - I learned a lot!
