Scorpid Scales....Follow

#1 Aug 20 2007 at 10:06 AM Rating: Decent
Is there a certain area that you can farm these in quickly? As in Tanaris (where people say to get them) the scorpids you find are very far apart and ususaly drop thick or heavy leather then.

Just wondering if there was a better place.

Thanks.

I disagree with the stats in that link (although they might be talking about regular drop rate rather than skinning drops). If you are high enough- level 50 or so (55 or above preferred), the scorpids in Blasted lands (level 50) drop two scales most of the time and seem to drop at more like 50% or so. Also, the hyenas and other mobs are lower level thatn the scorpids and are less of an annoyance thatn the ones in Tanaris, where the darn hyenas are as pesky as gnats!

Tanaris is ok and probably the best for the lowest level toons to farm them, the scorpids are level 40 to 46 depending on which area of Tanaris you are farming in, and they drop at a lower percentage, it seems like 1 in 4 or so will drop them but only if you are skinning them, and they rarely drop more than 1 scale. I have no experience with the other areas but tons of experience with Tanaris and Blasted Lands. If you can handle the level 44 to 46 scorpids go to the southern areas because the higher level scorpids in some spots eem to drop at a higher rate.

Tanaris is a good spot to farm them if you are creating one set of Scorpid armor for yourself, but definitely not a good place to get them for selling them or for the leatherworking quest. For that I would wait till I was level 50 plus and hit Blasted Lands to the right just after entering from Swamp of Sorrows(maybe 49 for Hunters and others wearing mail and plate).

I agree about the Blasted Lands. I was there farming rugged leather and when I left I had at least 12 scales (about half an hour) when in Tanaris it would be hours before I could get that many.

Watch out for the dragon Teremus though!

Yea, Blasted Lands has quite a few Scorpids roaming closely together. It's the most that I've seen so far, but there may be better places (only Lv57).

More info:

While you're there, be sure to get the quests from the two Bloodelves (the ones that ask for certain mob parts like Blasted Lung from Hellboars, Snickerfang Jowl from Snickerfangs, Basilisk Brains from basilisks, etc., etc. That way you can farm Scales and complete the 5 quests at the sametime. There are also a lot of skinnable mobs here (Felbeasts, Boars, Basiliks, Hyenas and Scorpids) and there all concentrated together. I got quite a few stacks of Rugged and Thick Leather here.

There are two more quests from Kum'isha that require somewhat rare dropped quest items, but all mobs in this zone drop these items as far as I know. I got a pair of Golem Leggings (which I sold for 60g) from one of Kum'isha's junk chests and 5 minutes later I got another pair of them from the nearby Ogres.

Those quests are repeatable, though the Kum'isha quests are the only ones worth repeating for a while.

There is another questline that is worth doing that starts here:

Once you have to free the slaves in one of the following quests, the quest will have you all over the zone (it's a small zone so it's really nice). Once you free all the slaves, you get a boat load of EXP. I did these all very easily as a Lv55 BM Hunter (though the Kirith part gave me a bit of trouble which was easily remedied once I killed guards and Feign Death'd and then killed Kirith alone).

These quests are all right there in the Blasted Lands and you can do them in a few hours time and get a ton of EXP and stacks of Leather to sell as well as your Scales. If you have Mining it's even better.

Something to think about. Might as well do the quests since you'll be there anyway. It's free EXP added to the EXP you get from farming and the quest items drop whether you have the quest or not, so might as well put them to use.
