At 355, I remember the fel leather, heavy clefthoof, and riding crop are the common recipes to use. There may be some others available from some faction but it requires some effort to get that rep for that recipe.
So the fel leather has a lot of mats, including primals…I avoid that one unless I need that piece. Heavy clefthoof is not too bad, just need to get the heavy clefthoof leather. The demand for that is very high, and is hard to find at AH or if you farm it, it gets tedious. Since you can’t sell the leather that you need, you also lose out on that bit of money. The riding crop seems to be the easiest mats to acquire. It’s also very expensive and unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be one of those “must-have†items for the average player, thus reducing the number of buyers.
But if you think of it in another way, you may find the riding crop to be the easiest of the mats to acquire, and lose just a little bit of money in the process. Eg, the average cost of mats on my server is about 125g, but I have the chance to sell it for 90-100g. It’s a loss, but not nearly as bad as all the loss in value of primals involved in other recipes.
Finally if you’re around town, go ahead and advertise making those pieces for someone if they provide mats. In that way, you have a ready buyer who provides his own mats and you may gain a skill point when you do the combine.
