I recently rolled up a pally and decided to take up blacksmithing with him partially for the end-game use and also to help augment his gear as he went along. But that's when I discovered the real shortage of low level recipes. I think I counted 4 green armor pieces under level 20, and maybe one or two weapons. This really disappointed me, since on my rogue I had all sorts of fun greens to play with through leatherworking, the same with my 'lock and tailoring. So, my question is, am I missing something, or does Bliz just hate low level blacksmiths?

I could be mistaken, but I'm assuming you can get your skill up to 200 max before level 20 so everything here is relative to that. There are more items than you assume that can be used(many more can be made), but there still aren't that many.

Green Armor -
Copper Chain Vest (35)
Runed Copper Pants (45)
Gemmed Copper Gauntlets (60)
Runed Copper Breastplate (80)
Ironforge Breastplate (100)
Rough Bronze Leggings (105)
Patterned Bronze Bracers (120)
Silvered Bronze Shoulders (125)

Green Weapons -
Copper Battle Axe (35)
Thick War Axe (90)
Heavy Copper Bronzesword (95)
Thick Bronze Darts (100)
Big Bronze Knife (100)
Pearl-Handled Dagger (115)

I don't think Bliz is hating on low level blacksmiths. Just pair up with mining, make everything you can, sell that and sell the ores/bars and buy better stuff of get better things from quests.

Second, there are many more items to use for ur self in some way but i dont think its best for your warrior.
The best thing is to minimalize the use of blachsmith items and max out the drops or the occassionally AH buyouts.

The only thing i did was making the cheapest items for skill-up and making the low lvl blues for some moneymaking (+ skillup).

Now i'm partially geared with my own crafted things and made the skillup for reaching my ultimate hammer (362 now)

If you have a pally, I would recommend dropping smithing. And this is a 364 smith talking.

If you REALLY want to make your own gear, then I guess you could keep it, but it doesn't really make much that's useful for pallys, and even at 375 it's not that great - you can check out all the smithing recipes here on Alla under the Trade Skill menu.

I was never able to make more than the odd piece for myself while leveling, although the sharpening stones/weightstones can be nice.

If you want a tradeskill you'll actually use while leveling, I'd recommend alchemy. If you just want to have good gear, I'd say take another gathering skill, sell everything you gather, and buy your gear.

no they don't hate Blacksmiths. Don't go with any crafting profession until you reach level 60. From lvl 1-60 go with 2 farming professions, such as, herbalism, skinning, and or mining.
