I apologize in advance, as this is not really an answer to your question, but there is a nice add-on called FishingBuddy that does all that plus gives you some decent statistics on fish you have caught in that area.

I'm not sure you can do this with a macro. Catching the fish requires a keystroke following input from the game - the bobber moves - and the cursor must be in position at the time. So, the macro would have to cast a line, then wait for the bobber to move, then immediately "catch" the fish, all while the cursor is in position over the bobber.

It's certainly beyond my ability. Although you did not ask for opinions, I would add that such a macro would take most of the "feel" out of fishing. It would become rote, and not resemble fishing at all. I am one of the people who enjoy fishing and would not use such a macro.

Meanwhile, if you simply want to be able to switch back and forth between fishing rod and weapon (and at the same time change into and out of fishing gear, such as gloves with + fishing enchant or any of the gear won in the fishing tournament), then as already suggested, Fishing Buddy is a great add-on. You can tell it what to switch, and as long as those items are in your bag it will switch all of them at the same time. Great if you get jumped and need to switch back to your weapon real quick.

it is not possible to have the game catch a fish for you without a bot (which is illegal in-game).

Thanks for the replys.

I clearly didnt explain what i meant by 'fishing'. You know when you drag the fishing ability from your spellbook onto your ability bar, and click it (bobler gets thrown out)? Thats what i meant. I didnt mean to say that the macro would click the bobbler too. So does anyone know the command for this?

Thanks again.

fishing buddy/fishing ace will do that for you.
Fishing ace will either cast your rod, or apply a lure when you double-right-click anywhere on your screen.
Buddy does similar i think, but i've not used it.

In case you don't want to use an add-on, the macro should probably look like this:

/equip <name of your fishing pole>
/cast Fishing

I havn't tried this yet but alternatively I think you can do the following:

/equip <name of pole>
/cast [target=<name of pole>] name of lure
/cast Fishing

I don't know the exact syntax, but you can put the modifier on the lure part so it doesn't attempt to apply the lure each time you cast unless you hold down say CTRL while you click the button.
