I'm starting a hunter to see how they play and was wondering if just getting skinning was frowned apon because ive seen people say oh he just has skinning must be a botter.

What's the point of only having one profession? It doesn't hurt to have leather working. there's nothing that says you have to level it. You could also do a tracked gathering profession like mining or herbalism to get even more money.

Skinning is great for cash, and hunters make great skinners. Skinning also does not interfere with your other tracking abilities. Why leave money on the ground by not skinning it?

Now that you have made that good decision, turn to your other profession slot. Don't leave it empty. Turn it into a money maker too.

For a hunter, you may want to do Disenchanting (by picking up the enchanting profession). This also does not interfere with your other tracking abilities. Disenchanters make money by turning their greens into enchanting mats that sell on the AH. The real money in this is buying greens off the AH for cheap (bid or buyout). Buy cheap greens that you know typically disenchant into mats worth more. Enchantrix addon is invaluable here.

I've actually just now started dabbling in disenchanting and it is a fun way to make cash. I keep saying disenchanting so that you wont get it mixed up with the other part of the profession, which is enchanting. Don't enchant for cash, disenchant. When you are a rich, high level, you can dabble in the enchanting side of it. Until then, only enchant your bracers enough to get your skill up for disenchanting.

Lastly, the other two gathering professions are sure money makers. Mining and Herbalism are proven ways to make the gold (it's how I got my epic flier). The only disadvantage for a hunter is that when you track one of these, you can't track humanoids, beasts, etc. at the same time. If you can live with that, then these are great.

Hope that helps. Don't leave an empty profession slot. Become a money making machine.

this is exactly how i think about animal corpses. i hate leaving a body unskinned. it almost makes me want to get on my skinner and come to that spot just for that corpse.

especially when you have to grind on animals and you're not a skinner, i really want to bring my skinner and log him in every few kills to get that animal!

as for having 1 profession, you certainly can have 2. a hunter does a lot of tracking but as long as you're patient for it, you could also track ore or herbs. having 2 gathering professions, without the need to spend any money to make things, will cause your bank to grow, grow, grow!
