Herbalism 1-300 for high lvl Alliance CharsFollow

#1 Jul 24 2007 at 6:31 AM Rating: Good
This is my input for high lvl chars (alliance)who change profession to herbalism (and if you raid regularly, herbalism is a MUST imho).
I would also highly recommend getting the add-on 'Gatherer'. For those who don't know, this add-on will mark on your world and minimap, all the spots you gather herbs/ore/treasure with options for turning them on/off depending on which char you're paying with at the time.
ALWAYS attempt to pick a herb, even if it is too high for you to pick at the time. This will mark it on the map and make it easier to find when you reach the required skill level.
ALWAYS pick any herb that is green, especially in the later stages, as they will still regularly give you a level point.
I managed to go from 1-300 in only 4 main regions (with very small excursions into 2 other places) and in less than a day. As I write this, I've just gone through the dark portal with my 64 rogue and am aiming to reach at least 350 in the next few hours.

As a last note, before I begin, this is a guide to leveling your herb skills, not a guide on where to find herbs. For reference, I have linked a couple of web pages I used to help me (as well as this page, ofc).

1-75 Teldrassil

Very easy to find Silverleaf, Peacebloom, Earthroot(15) and Mageroyal(50).
At 75, run to the herbalism trainer in Darnassus (near the Temple of the Moon) and learn skill up to 150. You can go back to Teldrassil and continue to 100, or fly to Ratchet. I recommend you fly to Ratchet.

75-150 Central and southern Barrens

Make Ratchet your home.
This area starts off slowly, but really starts to level you up quickly at 115. Main herbs are Mageroyal(50), Briarthorn(70), Bruisweed(100), Wild Steelbloom(115) and Kingsblood(125). You can also pick up the odd Grave Moss(120).
Head east and then south from Ratchet and generally follow the line of the hills all the way down to Razorfen Downs/Kraul. Cross over the road and then head north all the way up to Wailing Caverns. Back over to the east side and repeat loop until level 150.
Note: Don't forget to gather ALL herbs (especially those too high for you to start with). This will draw an easy to follow route on the map for you.

At 150, HS to Ratchet and catch boat to Booty Bay. Once at BB, learn herbalism to 225 from trainer up near the gryphon master.

150-225 Stranglethorn Vale

This is one of the first areas where I take a small excursion. Once you have your training to 225, fly to Westfall. Make your way West to the lighthouse and then swim up the coast to gather Stranglekelp(85). I did this twice, just to make the start of STV easier. The closer to 185 you can get, the better.
Once you're high enough, or you're just fed up, ride into STV.
Start to head down the east side from Kurzens Compund. You'll be looking for Kingsblood(125), Fadeleaf(160), Goldthorn(170) and Khadgars Whisker(185). At 210, you will also be able to start collecting Purple Lotus. Stick to STV until 225, then fly to Stormwind.
Get training to 300 (from trainer in mage district, opposite alchemy shop) then fly to Duskwood. Run into Swamp of Sorrows.

225-300 Swamp of Sorrows

From here, you can find Kingsblood(125), Fadeleaf(160), Goldthorn(170) and Khadgars Whisker(185). But by far, the most important herb you will find is Blindweed(235). This herb sells quite well in AH, but more importantly, it keeps leveling you up all the way to 300. Even after it turned green for me at 285, I got a 100% level rate to 298, at which point I made my way to the dark portal, picking up my last 2 levels on the way.
If you come here at 225, getting to 235 asap is the key thing, so you can start to pick Blindweed. Circle the whole of the outside of the area (coastline not included) next to the hills/cliffs. You should find enough Goldthorn to get you to 235 in 2 circuits, or less.
This is a really easy place to level up to 300. The only time I ventured out of this area was to travel to Nethergarde Keep to empty my bags and as previously mentioned, on my way to the dark portal. I also did a circuit of Blasted Lands for herbs, to allow time for respawns in SoS. You can get Firebloom(205), Sungrass(230) and Gromsblood(250).
I would recommend farming here until Blindweed goes gray (you will need to travel to Honor Hold and get training to 375 from the female NE in the tower next to the inn). This should get you to at least 320. At 325, you should be able to farm all the herbs you can find in Hellfire Penninsula, which are Golden Sansam(260), Dreamfoil(270), Mountain Silversage(280), Felweed(300) and Dreaming Glory(315). At 325, you can start to farm Ragveil and Terocone (another good seller in AH). Ragveilcan be found in Zangarmarsh and Terocone is found in Terokar Forest.

I may add to this when I reach 375, but the only other comment I wish to make is about Ancient Lichen(340). This herb can only be farmed from instances in the Outlands. It sells for ~55g a stack on my server (Alonsus) and is very useful for several potions and flasks. And this is the whole reason I changed to herbing with my rogue. So I can sneak past them 'muthas' and farm it solo.

Good luck to all.

Kalgoth - 70 Paladin
Anklenibbler - 70 Warlock
Rudigar - 70 Rogue
Tenkarte - 69 Mage
Ulrikakakaka - 66 Hunter

<note to self - must remember to get a life sometime>
