Herbalism to AlchemyFollow

#1 Jul 16 2007 at 8:49 PM Rating: Decent
My professions are herbalism and alchemy. As a warlock, I thought this would help me a lot in terms of money and potions. I've been selling herbs at the AH every time I head into UC while making potions with many on the road. Its become apparent to me that herbs are worth a lot more than the potions I can create at this point. My herbalism skill is a little over 118 and my alchemy skill is around 76. How do other people decide how much herbs they're going to sell and how many they're going to level up alchemy with? Should I continue to level alchemy until its maxed out before worrying about money?

Pick up fishing to make some money. A stack of Oily blackmouth, the first valuable fish available to you, can sell from 1g50s upwards depending on your server. BUt fishing still makes some decent money

I would continue leveling alchemy. As with many of the crafting professions the real money normally coms at higher levels (with the exception of a few potions like underwater breathing and the swiftness potion). You can also get lucky making twink pots (like agility/etc)

I didn't really post a profit in alchemy until I learned Transmute Primal Might and then selected Mastery of Transmutation. You can find people who need transmutes and every now and then get a free primal might. (You can also ask for a 10g tip each time you transmute since you are using up a 23 hour cooldown).

It took a while, but eventually, I started getting some x2 procs, then today a x4 (woot, finally!).

Overall, I've found that most potions are cheaper than the mats needed to make them. Herbalism is a huge money maker. Sell the herbs, buy the pots on the AH.

I think I'm misunderstanding you. Are you saying there is like a "chance on transmute" to receive a second or even forth Primal Might?

That is correct. Once you get to a certain player level (not sure 68? I did it at 70) and a certain alchemy level (again I did it once I was 375, but it could be earlier), you can go to the tower in Honor Hold (or the Horde equivalent) and start the quest to become a Master of Transmutation. You have to go to Netherstorm and give the NPC there 4 Primal Mights that you crafted. Then you are a Master of Transmutes.

Anytime afterward, whenever you transmute, you have a chance (a small one) to make more than one. You can get (in order of probability) x2, x3, x4, or x5.

It took me 12 days worth of transmutes to get my first x2. 3 days later, I got a second x2. Today, I got a x4.

If you can get another player to supply the mats, you give them one and keep the extras. Pure profit.

This is not a very common proc, so don't do it with the expectation that it will happen often. But when it does happen....Cha-ching!

As you are a fairly low level Herbalist and Alchemist, I would suggest you harvest as many herbs as you can and at the same time make all the potions you can. That way you will level up both professions and with luck have herbs and potions left over to sell. Dont buy at the AH until lvl 60, unless you need a recipe. When you get to the Outlands you can afford to buy potions and keep selling herbs

@ NCspaz, I got my Master of Transmutation at lvl68 and got x2 Primal Mights on the second night. :) I didn't know it was possible for x5 but I will not hold my breath.

It's true that herbs are more expensive than the potions you can make with those herbs. So to level alchemy, I advise to take a good look at the prices for herbs and potions. Try to make only those potions that won't "cost" you a lot of money. Just compare the prices for herbs and potions at AH.
Once you can transmute, you can make money with alchemy. Try to get the arcanite-transmute as soon as possible, an Arcanite Bar still sells for around 10G while the mats cost only around 2G or less.
