I’m like some input on the different LW specializations based on the sets they produce. I’m a MM Hunter who tries (somewhat successfully) to avoid melee. I initially chose DS because most posts I’ve read said that was the way to go mainly because of the mail armor. I just completed the initial quest, but after looking at the initial sets DS offers, Green, Blue, and Black Dragon Mail, I’m having second thoughts. Only the black seems appropriate for a Hunter while the other two are more spellcaster-y giving increased mana regen bonus (green) and spell heal/damage increases (blue). The black offers increases in attack power, and set bonuses in hit rating and critical strike. These are all very good, but no agility bonus is given. And since this is a four piece set, it would be tough to make up for that in other pieces. The Looking at the LVL 70 set Netherscale Armor is where the specialty finally seems to fit hunters with boosts in agility, stamina, intellect, crit hit, AP, and hit rating.

Under elemental, the Stormshroud set offers great critical strike increases, but mainly seems to be for rogues because of the dodge bonuses and the energy restore. The volcanic armor is mostly an asbestos suit of fire resistance. So I don’t think elemental is for me.

But tribal intrigues me. The devilsaur armor offers ups in stamina, attack power and critical strike on each item plus a 20+ to the hit rating for the set. Plus, it’s a set of just two items, so I’d be able to supplement weak areas with other items. The LVL 70 set Windhawk is definitely for a caster, though.

As I’ve typed this out, I think I answered my own question, but I’d still like to hear opinions on whether it would be worth it to possibly spec tribal from 40-70, then switch to DS at 70 or stick with DS throughout. Can you suggest a solid set suited for hunters to fill in the 50-70 lvl range?

Go with DS for mail. There are decent leather pieces to be had in Outlands, but eventually you'll end up with mail armor. I specced tribal, thinking some of the early Tribal pieces look appealing. Well, as it turned out, I don't think I ever wore/used many crafted items. The drops and quest rewards in OL will be better than what you can craft until you hit really high end anyway. In my opinion, the later DS mail stuff is more suited for hunters than the high end Tribal, especially considering you'll most likely end up 100% mail.

In my experience, Tribal is geared more for rogues and/or druids. You will outgrow Tribal. DS, in my opinion, is better for hunters in the long run.
