Half the time I try to skin something I've killed after looting it, I'll get a "You do not have permission to loot that corpse." message. If I wait a second or two more, I can skin whatever it is, but the lag is still irritating as hell, especially when my toon chimes in with "That would be stealing!"
OK, a couple of things...
a) No, it wouldn't. You just killed it, and...
b) Who cres if that would be stealing???!!! You're Horde, damn you! "Steal" the freaking skin!!!
On an interesting side note, if another player kills something and loots the corpse, I can skin those just fine without even the tiniest bit of protest from the WoW gods.

you should have little trouble skinning , yes i also get the same effect but only if i almost double click to loot and skin , it does not take seconds just needs to have a chance to do one action at a time
i believe you can make a macro to loot and skin to set on one button which i would be interested in trying to see if that stops the very slight delay in skinning

If you hold down Shift when you click to skin, you'll auto loot the target. As for the "scolding" you get when you click to fast, that's because when wow first came out, ppl could auto loot another persons kill if they clicked fast enuff after the target died, so Blizzard added that to all lootable things: ore veins for mining, chests and lock boxes, herbs, and skinnable and regular corpses, just to make it fair.

Uh, I care. If I killed it, I get to skin it. If my character doesn't skin, knock yourself out.
For example, while running around the Ghostlands one day, some came up next to me while I was fighting, waited till I killed and looted it, then tried to skin it while I was trying to skin it. Not cool and I told them so.
