2nd Trade Skill? (life story included)Follow

#1 Jul 09 2007 at 9:28 PM Rating: Decent
I'm a 64 hunter who, right b4 BC, droped LW/Skining combo (300/300 on both). IDK y i did it, but i was bored. I started enchanting 2 DE crap and make some money and have an enchanter for my friends. Enchanting is my only skill so far (105/150?). I need a 2nd skill. Which would go for more, mining, skinning (not really wanting 2 do again :/ ) or herbalism (Friend is a 375/375 Alch/herb)? Should i got mining (4 twink 2 get mats for eng. crap), Skinning (4 money), or herbalism (4 the friend who might make me stuff)?

I dont see much point in enchanting if you dont raise the skill at least to 225, meaning you can DE stuff up to level 63 and get regular income of arcane dusts and planar essences that are imo only worth selling these days.
I assume you are in Outlands aswell, which means you are probably looting things around that level.

To raise enchanting skill tho, you will have to spend more than you can get back money wise, so I would recommend some pure gathering/money making skill to support your enchanting.

Wow! A gathering skill would be good, but at your level there's a downside.

In order to level that gathering skill, you are going to have to spend a lot of time in the lower-level areas. That translates to no XP. Skinning is by far the easiest skill to level, since there are always lots of skinnable corpses left around by others. Additionally, as a hunter, it doesn't interfere with your tracking abilities. I know you really don't want to do it again, but it's what I'd recommend.

i'm an enchanter that has tried mining, but switched to skinning. now i'm lvl 70, so i took tailor/enchanting. if i were to pickup a gathering skill again, i would go with herbalism. i've heard that you can make good money selling flowers.... but to be totally honest with you, i've never looked at herb prices on AH. mining seems too popular, so i think you'll see less competition as an herbalist.

Yeah, enchanting isn't a prob because i can solo most of the instances that i can get the mats (Strange Dust, Deadmines. Major material in >75 enchanting) Getting DE items isn't the problem because i have tons of DE crap from quest in the bank for when i'm 225. I'll keep in the mind the 2nd skills you guys have suggested, thx for the input :D

I said at least 225 :)
Disenchanting is easy, but you said you want to enchant for friends too. Check on tradeskills what you actually need for some high level enchants and how much farming it will take to get some formulas.

A friend of mine took enchanting and I spend lot of time listening to his rant about how big money sink enchanting is, how low droprates on some formulas are, how people dont understand why some enchants cost what they cost and so on and so on.
If you can take your time and consider enchanting as something to do along other things and only when and if you can afford it, I guess you wont be so much disappointed then.

Not on Blackhand, lol. The formulas for lvl 40+ enchant, not the enchant themselves, are about 2g+. It's outrages. 150+ will go for a bit, not to much though. If your high enough 2 solo >30 instances than you'll b fine /w enchanting.

And how long did you farm Kara until Mongoose dropped?

er... wait! you can't buy that on the AH...

OK, how much did you pay for Formula: Enchant Boots - Cat's Swiftness? Are you even high enough to cast the expensive enchants?

edit: hmmm, 145/150. You aren't even high enough to DE high level items for mats.

If you have twinks, either 29, 39, 49, that means at some point you won’t need mining any more. So either just buy the ore you need, or considering that you can mine easily up to those points, mine all you need and later drop it for another skill.

As for which other skill? Mining certainly is beneficial even up to 375. But being a hunter, you’ll have many things to keep track of without needing to track ore veins.. Make sure that won’t get too annoying, though, if you decide to keep it. LW is easy in the sense that you can just kill things that you might be tracking already anyway, or at least, without tracking, you can still visually spot the animals you need.

Indeed.

I raised tailoring from 360-370 on cloth I got just from helping mentioned friend farm +30 int weapon enchant on BEs in Netherstorm.

Almost all formulas that are worth something in enchanting are BoP.
