What you can do is make use of the 10-day BC trial to train. You'll keep any training after the trial expires.

I had a few days between the expiration of my trial and purchasing BC.. I think my herb/skinning was still getting skillups in Azeroth past 300, but am not positive.

As long as you don't switch to jewelcrafting you should be fine.

if you talk about primary professions - yes u need BC but for secondary skills like Cooking/Fishing/First Aid u dont need BC because they are all learnt from Book
