350+ gems patternFollow

#1 Jun 14 2007 at 12:10 PM Rating: Decent
I'm at 361 in JC at the moments and i'm looking for more pattern. The only way i have for the moment i'm not 70 yet is too buy pattern from AH. is it the same in the other professions? Is the pattern value of 350+ items is allways that much expensive?

You can also work up rep and get some recipes that way.

The recipes for rings and jewelry are cheaper than the recipes for cutting gems. Try to get those recipes and get to 375.

On my server there are at least 3-4 common recipes being sold on AH that are 100g or less. You can use those to get to 375.

Yes, there are certain rep-realted recipies that are much cheaper to buy for JC in the higher levels... however i have NEVER sold a piece I made from one of them, and most of them require lovely mats like khorium, primals, etc... so even if the recipie were free you would STILL be losing large ammounts of gold trying to level that way.

So I would suggets trying a little math before you look a using those recipies to level from. On my server at least it's usually possible to get a decent gem cutting recipie for arround 300-400g. Assuming you get something that is in some demand (red, blue and yellow gems sell better) you can generally get between 30 and 60g per cut gem.

Even assuming that a: you get a fairly expensive recipe, sell the gems reasonably cheap, and get one skillup for every gem you cut, you should still be able to break even on buying that 400g recipe.

If on the other hand you chose to level those 14 points off of a jewlery recipe you will probably be out not only the cost of the recipe, but the cost of materials as well, Leaving you signifigantly in the hole at the end of it all.

Just a few points from my own observations.

You are in the worst part of JC leveling. You can make some money prospecting and selling the uncut blue gems but your best bet is to grind out some money and buy a good pattern from the AH. Then get more money thru prospecting and grinding money for more patterns.

I highly suggest you study your AH for which gems sell the best at the best prices on your server. Buy one of those patterns first.

You will want to buy a pattern for each gem. You don't need every pattern but you will want to be able to cut every type of gem you prospect. (Star of Elune, Living Ruby etc.)

The good news is you can level to 375 with 350 blue gem patterns. It takes a while but you won't really notice because you will be making most of your money on the blue gems you are cutting.

So be patient do not try to do it all at once and you will start to make good money.

What all the other guys said is true, you'll never make money making and selling the jewelry for 350+ JC. There's no real need to hurry to 375 since there's not a single difference functionally between 360 and 375 for what you'll be doing. All of a JC's money comes from his 350 recipes. The actual act of getting to 375 is just coincidental as you cut more gems to post on the ah or ***** yourself out in a major city for tips. Truthfully, with a decent selection of sought after cuts Like Wicked and Potent noble topaz, Bright living ruby, solid star of elune, smooth and thick dawnstone etc, you can get to 375 in an evening from 350 just sitting in stormwind advertising. There's no rush for 375 in jewelcrafting, just 350.
