the Destructive Skyfire Diamond has a requirement of 2 red, 2 yellow, 2 blue gems. does this mean i need at least six gems, two of each color, to get the effect? or is it just two of any?

You shouldn't need 6 gems total if you use Orange, Green, or Purple gems. They will count towards 2 different colors.

Thermalnoise is correct, i currently have a meta gem with similar requirements, and i only have 3 other gem slots. By putting in a green gem, a purple gem, and an orange gem I was able to satisfy the requirements.
basicly it means you need have 2 red 2 blue and 2 yellow in other slots in your gear to gain the effect of the meta gem. without the correct colors the effect will not appear.
