It can be profitable if your realm economy is good, just disenchant and sell the mats on the AH. Use tailoring with it and any linen you get make into brown robes, even when it is grey, disenchant and you will have a lot of strange dust to sell or level your enchanting. Try to level your enchanting with the enchants that require the easiest mats you can get. Also one thing to remember is you can enchant an item over and over, so keep items in your bank to keep enchanting level up.

Unless you have some top-end enchants it is tricky to make money out of enchanting. The real money is in disenchanting. Some people would say create cloth items or farm low-level instances for greens. This is an ok method, what is better is farming the AH.
Find out what disenchanted mats go for on your AH. Then look for items that will disenchant into those items that cost less than the mats value. .... of the whale is a good example. Buy these, disenchant and sell the results. One of the great things about mats is they have no-deposit and so can be reput on the AH at no cost if they do not sell. You might also want to consider checking the AH for mats on Saturday night/Sunday. A lot of weekend players dump there mats at a low price then, and you could re-sell them during the week for +g

Also, there is the addon Enchantrix I thinkg it's called, it's really helpful for trolling AH.
