Leatherworking: Fell short in Rugged / Knothide transition.Follow

#1 May 24 2007 at 11:30 AM Rating: Decent
Well I'm at like 296 LW right now. I hit the outlands at lv 58 and since then I progress aparently to Knothides/Fel hides/Gem..something.. leather hides.

So now I have to journey back to U. crator, or Plaguelands and plow through some green mobs (as I did last night for 4 stacks... and still fell short of 300) lol.

Sorry, just a mini rant. I never sell leathers in the AH, I've only used them on synths for LW, and Of course I keep everything I skin in the Bank, until I can just sit down for a minute and plow through the levels in front of whatever trainer I need to be at.

Anyone else fall short during this stretch?

Haha i ran into a problem similar to this

But im a lvl 57 shaman who hasnt hit outlands yet but levled LW just to make myself some Felscale Gloves (lvl 57 outland green that blew my gear out of the water haha and just a simple crafted green at around 305-315 skill)

NOBODY was selling felscales and how am i supposed to farm them if im not in outlands?

ended up having a guildy who had recently farmed them to price gouge the AH as he was the only wan posting and he lent me the 3 felscales i needed.

Winterspring is a good place to grind for those last couple points. The chimera, frostsaber, bears, and yeti all drop leather. The chimera and frostsaber patterns should be good to get you to 300. Relatively quick grind, from my experience.

I believe what the troll was trying to say (in a rather rude and unnecessary manner) was that Knothide Leather can't be made from Rugged Leathers. You need Knothide Leather Scraps x5 to make one Knothide Leather.

I was a 300 LWer at level 56, I believe, but only because I enjoy tradeskilling. It's not terribly difficult to get the mats, unless your only patterns are ones that require cured rugged hides.

Once you get to the Outlands, leather comes in like water in a rainstorm.

Ah good point. I just assumed that since we've just unlocked our skinning when we reach the outlands scraps are a dime a dozen. Hence some decent skill ups off the 100000 stacks of scraps I got. Hence the transition from rugged to knothides XD

Maybe I should have clarified myself a bit more.

I know, I have the same problem.

I'm level 60 now, I went to outland at lvl 58.

I started hording leather around the end of heavy leather. So I have some heavy leather, like 500 thick leather, and about 80 rugged leather.

The transition from Azeroth to Outland can be a bit of a shock in some unexpected ways. I knew Azeroth armor would be quickly replaced, especially the K-Mart Special gear I was wearing. And the skinning/leatherworking change didn’t make me blink. But what caught be by surprise, rather like a bucket of ice water in the face, was the change in tailoring.

My level 60 priest is a tailor. But I also leveled up three bank alts to 40 so that they too could make mooncloth and ride a mount. I’ve been playing my hunters since the expansion so I’d not really looked at tailoring. I read about Primal Mooncloth in passing and hadn’t looked any further. I just recently discovered it has nothing at all to do with Azeroth mooncloth. My three bank alts are now out of business. *sniff*

The lesson to be learned here is that there is a distinct line drawn between Azeroth and Outland crafting. Anything over 300 skill will require at least a level 50 character and a copy of the expansion.
