Any thoughts on fishing from 320 to 375?

Time is valuable. Loafing around the fly-in lakes in Outland is ok for a while, but it gets pretty monotonous pretty quick. So it would be great if someone could post the best way to deal with leveling past 320.

For example, does catching higher level fish in higher level areas really increase the rate of skill increase, or is predicated on just number of fish caught?

Bet that's answered in the Trade Skills FAQ =)

True

But hard to believe I can sit in Darnassas and fish for mudfish or I can fly into a BC lake and it makes no difference - just how many casts I can do per hour.

Not very challenging.

At your lvl of fishing expect to have to make 10-15 succesful catches to get a skill up.

If your serious about outlands fishing you would do well to get at least 1 of the STV fishing comp prizes, if not the win then 1 of the rare fish.

So what better way to gain 50+ points in fishing, earn some cash and perhaps get an added boost for fishing?

Sunday 2-4pm (server time).

Cya there :)

Thanks for the reminder - hope to be there.

In meantime I will be up in the waterfall lakes coming out of Blackwind Lake getting golden darter about 50% of the time.

No mobs, and as a Resto druid I actually get good use from the golden fish sticks (+20 spirit and + 44 healing, with 7500 health as bonus.)

One thing I've found useful is fishing beside Juno Dufain at the Cenarion Refuge in Zangarmarsh.

It ups skill without too much bother, and allows you to periodically buy attractors as they respawn in his inventory ( 2 at a time).

Not quite, most of the lakes in the outland will require you to use bait, and even then there will be lots of "YOUR FISH GOT AWAY!" messages. I level my fishing in Tanaris, where I can still catch money fish and don't lose a lot of fish.

Steemwheedle port and feathermoon are my best fishing spots, lots of nice fish!

Also you can catch double fish in both these places! (get em while they're hot, they're fixing it in 2.1)

To combine and repeat what two others said...

Go back to Feathermoon or Steamwheedle to level up.

--First, you get double catches. Fish may not be as valuable as OL fish, but you'll catch a lot in a hurry while you're leveling.

--Second, no lures will be needed. To fish in OL, lures are pretty much required. Even with a lure, you risk the dreaded "Your Fish Got Away" message which will cost you a credit towards that next skill up. Also, cost of lures adds up and it gets old adding lure after lure while you're skilling up.

--Third, you won't have to worry about aggro at all. You can fish in peace without random OL mob aggro, which can be a problem at many of the OL fishing areas.

And no, your skill level does not affect what you catch. It only affects where you can fish. Your skill level relative to the level required will also determine the probability of "Your Fish Got Away".

patch 2.1 will also reduce the fishing timer from 30s to 20s..as well as guarantee a fish bite. catching the fish, still depends on if you can catch it or not.

so the same number of successful catches needed, but 10s less per cast.

don't just go fish for some lowbie fish in darnassus..fish for something you can sell at least.

eg, Wailing Caverns instance (if you're alliance on pvp server) or the WC fishing area (horde or pve server) is good for deviate fish. low level fish, but good money.

other fish have been mentioned, too.

fishing in outlands is fine..just dont go to areas too high for your skill. zangarsmarsh works fine up to 375. the variety of fish you catch keeps you guessing as to which stack you'll finish first.

next to the CE camp is a graveyard and lake, in case you're on pvp server and end up dying because you tried to fight with your fishing pole.

p.s. and/or update: Looks like the upcoming patch will "fix" the 2 fish catches in Feralas and Tanaris. Regardless, I'd still recommend fishing there because the number of economic fish (Oilys, Firefins, Stonescales) is still decent and you don't need a really high skill like you do in Azshara, for example.

Take it from an Alchemist when I tell you, you can fish for any of the following fish to raise your skill and sell them in stacks in the AH to boot. They are all used as Alchemical components.

  • Oily Blackmouth
  • Firefin Snapper
  • Stonescale Eel

  • Feralas is a great place for these fish because you can get them right off of the coast (by the dock for the boat to Feathermoon), and you don't even need to find the special schools.

    In addition...
  • Deviate Fish
  • (These sell very well in the AH because if eaten raw, they turn the character into several different things. They are also used in Alchemy and Cooking.

    WRECKAGE!!!
  • Wreckage is also a great way to raise your skill and make it worth your while. You often get stuff to sell in the AH, such as healing pots, green items and often bolts of cloth, silk and mageweave. All decent money makers.
Sadly, I am told there is no wreckage in Outland. Smiley: jawdrop

  • STV Tourney
  • Every Sunday at 2:00 Pacific/5:00 Eastern, there is a fishing tournament in Stranglethorn Vale.

I think what you're thinking of here is Savory Deviate Delight, the cooked version of Deviate Fish. Savory Deviate turns you into a pirate or a ninja for 1 hour. Uncooked there are some odd buffs, but the Savory Deviate Delight is what most are after. Unfortunately, the recipe is rare and very sought after.

Sort of true. But, there are Steam Pump Flotsam pools. These have various things including scrolls and crates. They aren't really as juicy as the old world wreckage, but they're not too bad.

In Steam Pump Flotsams, there are some Fel Iron Ore, also the scrolls, sometime Fel Iron bolts and others. Even gray named trashes sells for 0.5 g per piece.
All buff fishes, cooked, are selling well on AH, this is additional advantage of Outland fishing.

    Hey, azwing or anyone else?

Do you know if the Druid shapechange forms kill the effects of the Savory Deviate Delight?
