ok: you can have all 3 of the secondary professions: cooking, fishing, and first aid

Mining goes with:
Blacksmithing
Engineering
Jewel Crafting (expensive)

Herbalism goes with:
Alchemy

Skinning goes with:
Leatherworking

Other professions:
Enchanting
Tailoring
because these 2 do not require a gathering profession many pair them up, as a newb to the game I suggest you pick blacksmithing, engineering, alchemy or laetherworking with their gathering profession to start out. Jewelcrafting rquires $$$

Don't type the title to a thrad as CONFUSED because it doesn't explain what the thread is about and is against forum rules.

For someone new to the game I would suggest two gathering skills either skinning and mining or skinning and herbalism. However if you have a good memory herbalism/mining is great. Also stop by EVERY herb/mine spawn you see whether your way above it or not. This way by the time you get to 40 you won't have any issues buying your mount.

That's for money gathering, a new palyer should experience the general gathering/crafting. If he doesn't spend large amounts of money he'll have his mount money fine, most people do have enough but spend a lot of money on a nifty rare sword they see for 50g...

The Trade Skills FAQ should be right up your alley.

I agree with Swollen, pick a gathering skill and its appropriate craft. My Rogue is skinning + leatherworking so that he can make his own armor. You will find plenty of beast mobs to kill in your questing, so it is a gimme.

If you go this route, when you reach 40 you get a chance to choose one of three branches of leatherworking: Dragonscale, Elemental and tribal. Elemental would be the way to go for a Rogue, as you get lots of Stam and Agi boosts.

I went alchemy/herbalism, and i dont regret it.
It's not really as much as a money making profession as others where you end up with a lot of un usable items - in alchemy basically all the potions you make help you in some way and can increase your stats whenever you want (i like it in instances, really helps) When you get into outland you'll be able to choose from the masteries, each mastery gives you a chance to create an extra item when you create an item of that type:
-Transmutation (not really useful, the cooldown is too long to make much money)
-Elixirs (long-term potions)
-Potions (short-term)
Might of mixed those 2 up, but I think it’s right

I've found that crafting = money sink. Period. The worst advise you can give a new player is that he will stay above the water line gold-wise if he chooses a crafting profession. The real fact is that you cannot gather materials for crafting as fast as you can level your character.

That means that if you gather your own materials, you have to "farm" lower level areas constantly in order to get your skill level approximately equal to your character level. If you don't gather materials yourself, you can hope that your guild mates are generous and supply you with the goods, or you can purchase them on the AH. One of those is the equivalent of begging and the other one is expen$ive.

Additionally, you have to dump the goods you made to level your crafting profession on the AH, where they won't sell unless you undercut the market. Very often, that means that you will end up selling the items for less than what the mats would have brought. It is rare when someone actually makes gold from crafting.

On the other hand, gold is a great substitute for any craft. If crafted items are, indeed, superior to other drops, you can purchase them cheap because the money-losing crafters put them up for a song. More often, they aren't as good, and with gold in your pocket, you can chose to outfit yourself better.

There are no "rules" on thread titles. All you have to do is look at the main forum and you will see dozens of titles that are wrong, obscure, or misleading. Having said that, it is a matter of good netizenship to make a title provide information on the content of the post.

<--- Makes money on crafting, and a little money DEing things.

269BS/280enchanting... 240g and counting.

Illyanna, lvl 44 BE Pally on Zangermarsh.

I think Ive sold maybe one enchant for a profit, and that was a minor beastslayer enchant for 50s or so, so most of my "income" comes from crafting.

Its not easy to make money crafting though, so I would never tell a new player to try to do it.

Easiest way to make money is the tried and true mining/skinning combo, and just buy your gear.
