Why is there loot window when D/E?Follow

I was always curious about what would happen if you didn't loot from the loot screen after disenchanting an item.
I tried it and if you close the window it just loots it anyway.
Makes me wonder if there is any point in showing the window if looting is the only option?
Maybe it's for if you have no free bag slots... but why not jusy show the window if it fails so you can free up some space?

why is there a loot window for fishing, same idea. it shows you what you're getting and i suppose gives you the option not to take it. at least in fishing that's true.

As the OP said, you cannot choose not to take it, it still loots to your bag. I'm not sure what would happen if you had no free bag slots, I never tried it.

Obviously, the reason you have no choice is that it would be silly to give you the choice to accept or reject the mats and at the same time give differing chances for what mats you get. Then everyone would be checking the values of the mats vs. the value of the original and this would get even crazier if you could simply try deing it over again, looking for a better result.

There has to be some chance involved, and some risk of losing out or making a killing on the value of the mats to make the game interesting. After all, if you can predict the results every time, then the game becomes boring (I couldn't bring myself to say "predictable"), at least for me it does.

well, if you were a game dev, and the game already had a system in place for resolving drops based on chance(the loot box). Would you make a whole new method that jsut slid items in to invintory without notifying the player of what they got? or would you use the system that is aready in the game?

As to why you cannot just close the window and put the item back to its pre Disenchanted status.... well come on, think about it. if you DE a item and get Dust, but do not want dust you could close the box(not looting) and try again untill it gave you a essence or a shard. or if you did not like what it gave you(assuming that the drop is fixed and will not change{even though the game dose not work like this i will entertain folks}) you could just vendor or AH the item (if it gave you dust)

At one point in time folks figured out how to get arround this and they did all the DE'ing next to a mail box, they would DE the item, then before looting the box, they would mail the DE'ed item to themselves(or an alt) then loot the open box, so that they would get to keep the item, AND the DE mats.

now thats sneeky, the short awnser is, to stop cheating, and because it was less difficult than making a new way to recive items.....

There will never be no space in your bags, because the space the item took up before d/e it is empty.

Has anyone tried setting loot all as the default action?
Does this work for D/E?

Used to be if you had full bags the loot box would pop up, and you would not be able to loot it, it would just stay there on the screen until you deleted/handed something off from your bags. I noticed recently in a patch they announced that this would not cause you to lose enchanting mats so maybe now it automatically goes in the spot where the item came from. I have not tested this since that patch.

If you mean auto-loot? Yes and no. It works for the first item you d/e. After that, the mats window from the second item on, pops up and stays there. Pain if you just picked up a few items from an instance or AH to d/e.

That's not true, if there's no space in your bags, it won't let you loot it, I've had to destroy many an item due to this.

You lost many a *disenchant* when *disenchanting an item*?
If so, please explain how.

Or, is "an item" (above) instead mob loot? If so, then such loot is not a disenchant and I think your observation is off-topic :).

If you have full inv, it won't let you close the D/E window until you drop/trade off some gear.
If you've just D/E something into a shard it's better to just destroy something cheap.
