I am a Mage and i wish to create my own staves, if you could do it. would i have to enchant the weapon to have special effects? ( +5 stmina or+3spirit etc.)

No you can't, but incidentally I deided to run another person who asked the same on a wild goose chase the other day on my BE Pallie!

The funny thing is, the first mistake anyone saw was the platinum one :P
A Blacksmith can make other weapons, but as a mage you won't find much use out of it....

There are 1h weapons such as daggers and sword that are good for Mages and Warlocks crafted with Blacksmith, but not staves to my best knowledge
staves (wood and metal), arrows (wood, stone, or metal arrow heads), bows (using animal parts and wood), xbows (wood and metal), would all fit into the one category tradeskill that isn't available yet: wood-working or carpentry.
this would have a partner skill of lumberjacking or chopping wood.
due to the heaviness of the log you cut though, with your axe, you can only carry one then you must return to the bank to put it up before cutting more. this is so that it will be a very time-consuming skill just right for all the veterans of WoW to spend time on. just kidding.

You know, that's not a half-bad idea, though you'd have to pull from skinning perhaps to get some of mats for bows, in theory that woodworking was a profession. Not unprecedented, since many crafting plans require various sorts of mats anyways. Always thought it silly Eng. can make guns, but no one can make a bow. >.<
