I just got up to 354 alchemy and was wondering where and when you get the quests for Elixir/pot/xmute mastery. Im only lvl 55 so did not wan to make needless trip to shatt if i was too low alch and/or char. lvl. Also any thaughts on preferences for which mastery to go would be appreciated.

At your level dont even worry about it. I believe there is a minimum level 68 requirement on the quests, and even if you could get them i think the only one you would be able to do is transmute mastery since that is the only one that doesnt require items/drops from instances (i believe potions does, i know for certain elixer does)

You must be level 68 as already explained, and there is a writeup on the masteries in the Trade Skills FAQ.
