Ok,so at 70,I decided to get leatherworking on my druid (got 375 skinning)...

And my question is,how do I go about getting light/medium leather?

If i kill the low level thrash, all i get is ruined leather scraps...and if I kill higher level stuff,I get heavy/rugged leather :D

so is there any high level mobs that drop light leather? Or am I forced to buy it all from the AH to level? :D

As a LW you can make light leather from ruined leather scraps, three scraps to every one leather.

Or you can just move up to slightly higher mobs than the ones that gave you those scraps.

either way, AH works too ^^

yeah, at 70 you could make the money to buy the leather many times faster then
actually grinding the leather

Um, just curious, how did you get to 375 skinning if you don’t know where to get light leather?

Mob too low = scraps
Mob too high = heavy leather or rugged...you went too far up the ladder of animals.

So you need to go to a zone with the in-between mob.

Not too hard.

Ok, in case it is too hard, then try the mobs around 15-25. 15-20 will yield some light leather with occasional scraps (maybe) and 20-25 will yield more light leather with occasional medium.

However, since you’re not in it to level up skinning, I would also suggest to buy these cheaper skins from the AH, and go skin the rugged animals. Eg, the same 1 hour you spend, you could be getting 4 stacks of light leather, or 3 stacks of rugged leather plus 1 stack of thick. You can see how the profit cost of spending time on light-leather animals versus higher-level animals.

You may say, you want to farm everything so you feel like you didn’t spend any money, but consider this. 1 stack of rugged may be 2g, and 1 stack of light may be 50s. You can buy 4 stacks of light for the time you spent collecting 1 stack of rugged.

At level 70 it would definately be easier to buy lower level leather and farm the the higher level in nagrand and terrokar. 1 Fel Scale (1g) = 20+ light leather, 1 Thick Clefthoof Leather (3g) = 60+ light leather.

Just type "light leather" in the search box to the left and find out which mobs drop it. Pick a zone with a fairly high droprate and go for it. When you decide you need medium leather, you can try typing "medium leather" in the search box, and searching those the same way.

All sarcasm aside, I found Duskwood to be the best place for both light and medium leather - wolves and dogs for the light leather and worgen for the medium. Assuming of course that you're alliance - as horde, you may be continually annoyed by lowbies calling for help trying to kill you thinking you're only there to camp them again.
