How do I make money on a reasonably new/low pop server?Follow

#1 May 06 2007 at 2:22 PM Rating: Decent
My title says it like it is. I'm currently re-rolling to a Night Elf Druid, and I'm excited. However the server is a recommended server with a low population, and it's fairly new. I'm not sure how to make money...

Any tips?

I was thinking that two gathering professions may not be the way to go, because a lot of people are still leveling up, but I'm not sure.

Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Enigmen

sell cloth?
if not too many people have transferred over, there'll be a hell of a lot of people levelling first aid up.

Same way you make money on a high population server. Take 2 gathering professions.

disenchanting FTW

Disenchanting is not the way to go anymore, to be able to DE anything in the game you have to level enchanting up to 300, which can burn a hole in your pocket.

Two gathering professions are definately NOT the way to go on new servers. I did that, and while I didn't lose any money, the herbs and leather I got barely sold above vendor price. If you want to make money, take a gathering and a creating profession. Get one that benefits the server the most and that the server has the least of (this is hard to do, but if the server has few leatherworkers, become a leatherworker, few blacksmiths, become a blacksmith, etc.) New servers are the hardest to make gold on, because there are rarely any 70's powerleveling a profession and characters high enough to buy the high level items. I tried leveling on Blood Furnace (made it to level 50 or so) before I transferred because the economy sucked so much. I did make roughly 50g buying items from BF and auctioning them on my new realm :)

Agreed, I have made money on both old and new servers, and it was definitely more of a challenge on the newer server. I generally make my money as a day trader, but to get the seed money I would normally use two gathering professions. The problem with gathering professions on a new server is many people are competing selling the low level goods like copper (if you are a miner). So the AH prices are just above vendor price. Taking a crafting profession (and this is an exception to the general rule) such as leather or smithing proved to be a decent alternative on the new server. Fishing also worked well for me to get started, just long enough to get a few gold so I could work the AH again.

I started on my server when it was new with hardly any level 70s. Two gathering professions isn't the way to go since no one has the money to buy herbs and ores and powerlevel. Ever wonder why copper ores sell for so much although they are everywhere in Dun Morogh or the Barrens? I think the best thing to do in this situation is simply level as fast as you can and don't spend money on the AH. Use only quest rewards and instance drops. Once there's a significant mass reaching level 70, they will want to powerlevel a craft to make BoP blues and epics, or outfit an alt. That is the time when gathering will pay off.
