While you are correct that the only way to make Enchanting self-supporting (and VERY VERY lucrative) is through
disenchanting, the information in the beginning of that thread is currently obsolete. Once you get to around page 4, the information becomes much better.
Basically what the thread says is to use the "/enchantrix percentless" command to display those items that can be disenchanted for a huge profit.
However, since TBC, enchantrix "percentless" and the alternative "bidbroker" have been disabled. The latter posts in the thread have workarounds to that problem. It's a bit more time-consuming, but possibly even more lucrative since there is no "easy-mode" to disenchanting riches any more. The "I want it without working for it" crowd are weeded out.
