Someone in my guild told me that they thought there was no longer a lock-in specialization in wow. He said that you can specialize in all of them (tribal, elemental and dragonscale). Is there any truth in this?

Slightly, you can now learn the pieces pre-BC from all 3 trainers, but anything that requires over 300 skill to create, you do need specialization in that type.

While this is true, some of the items you can make like this do have a special requirement listed on the item that says "Requires ________ Leatherworking"

Sure, but it's almost pointless for those items to be flagged as "Requires: Dragonscale Leatherworking", since the recipe is only taught to Dragonscale LW, and since the item is BOP.
I suppose it keeps a DS LW from making the item, and then switching trades or specializations...

I read somewhere yesterday or the day before, wowwiki maybe, that you used to not be able to switch specialization once you chose...But as of expansion time they changed it so that it is a 50g respec cost if you want to switch. As of 3/1 or 2/1 I believe they upped that to 100g.
So yes technically, if you want to spend the gold you can specialize in them all...just not at the same time.

Try talking to the person you talked to when picking your specialization. At least, that's how the Alchemy respec will work.

Is this the same for Blacksmithing in the new patch, I can learn all weapons and armors, from weaponsmith/armorsmith up to lvl300 w/out being specialize??

I believe there is a gnome guy in the lone hut at the north end of Steamwheedle Port in Tanaris. He has a book that you have to look at, or something like that, which will allow you to unlearn your specialization.
I'd be curious to know if anyone has specialized before 300 but still been able to go to the other trainers afterwards to learn the less-than-300-recipes. Or is the option of learning the others only available to those who haven't specialized yet?
