Not sure if anyone has posted it, from the Blizz Professions forum:

Quote:
We have been working on the resolution of a serious exploit in game which has led to certain consequences that we wanted everyone to be aware of. A hot fix has been recently applied to the alchemy profession, with regards to discoveries. For the time being, we have disabled all chance of a discovery, until we can implement the proper fix through a patch , as we can not resolve this matter solely with hot fixes. We apologize for the necessary but temporary removal of discoveries, and are working to have them re-implemented with an upcoming content patch.

Well... Did they say anything about what this issue WAS? I mean, come on. If they're gonna be pulling something THAT good out of the game, I can't think of one Alchemist who won't wanna know what the problem is...

If you do some digging, the exploit is explained. What's it matter now though?

Ha! Look at this, now:

This will not only be fixed in patch 2.1, but from then on, alchemists will also have a significantly higher chance of making discoveries.

Emphasis on the word significant.

I just dont get why they didn't post some kind of in game message to warn people about this. There has to be a decent amount of people who tried for discoveries last night who didnt know and chances are probably still don't.

You could try to create pots while your bags were full and still make discoveries but not use up any mats.

So glad I caught this here. I had actually planned on just selling all of my herbs, but if there is a better chance of discovery after the patch, then I will just wait it out.

Thanks for the heads up!

Oh, that's what the problem was? Huh... Hell, I can think of a hotfix for that right now: change the proc so that a discovery will only occur after a pot was successfully created and added to inventory...

But, when you get right down to it, Blizz doesn't care what I think, otherwise we'd have a PvP arena with a bunch of gold-farmer bots, and we'd all have nice shiny epics to kill them with. So... Yeah, I reckon we'll just have to see what *their* big fix is.

If they can't make the fix until a patch is applied, that means that the bug is in the client, not the server. Hot fixes are applied server side only. Patches fix client side problems.

I see. I wasn't aware the client handled things like procs and stuff. I thought it was merely for interaction between the server and the player... Well, anyway. I suppose all we can do is just wait for Blizz to fix the problem, and then hope all the Alchemists don't decide that the flask nerfs hurt too much, and go on strike. Well, that, or we can sit around dreaming about a big shiny-epics gold farmer-bot slaughter... I think I'll do that.

I should probably know this, but I don't. What are discoveries? And before anyone starts flaming, I am a lvl 283 alchemist. Unfortunately I just started my Herbalism.

Please read the Trade Skills FAQ. "Q. How do I "discover" a recipe?" is answered there.
