Grand master trinket or idol?Follow

Back when I used to play Everquest, when you hit the max skill level for a tradeskill, you could make a grandmaster trinket for yourself that gave some bonuses and bragging rights for your dedication to tradeskills and total and utter lack of a life.

Is there anything like that in WoW? Some kind of quest that you can do once you've hit 375 in your primary profession or hit 375 in all five skills (first aid, cooking, fishing and two choices)?

Would anyone be interested in something like that - either something as simple as just talking to an NPC and collecting a prize or a hellish quest involving rare materials and recipes from around the world?

Well, with Leatherworking, Tailoring, and Blacksmithing, there are many epic patterns to be had, for certain specializations. Some patterns are BoP, and take a whole slew of materials to make. However, they're very rewarding.

There is something a bit like that for most professions. For example for Alchemy there is a) the specialization quests and b) the Alchemist trinket. Both are signs that you are really dedicated to your profession (in particular the trinket requires 350 skill + Exalted with a specific faction + a lot of mats).

Are you referring to the [wowitem=13503]Alchemist's Stone[/wowitem]? That requires Revered, not Exalted, with the Sha'tar.

I was thinking more along the lines of something for the folks in the 1875 club - characters who have achieved a 375 in every tradeskill, kind of akin to the old Coldain Shawl quest in EQ or the uber planer quests that came later.

This would require you to have a 375 in all five of your skills to either talk to the NPC and get the reward or get put on the quest.

For something as simple as just saying "hi" to an NPC and him giving you a gift for having wasted so much time, maybe something simple, say a pet "Jack-in-the-box" (Jack of all trades - get it?) or something simularly fun, but mostly useless for actual game play.

On the other hand, being able to create some hardcore trinket or idol or whatever by using all of the tradeskills you've got together in order to gather the mats and do the combines would be kind of fun for killing time when you're not doing something productive.

The items would have to be time-sink oriented stuff as compared to "slay uber mob X that only a 20 man raid with everyone wearing purple and red gear can kill" so that everyone could do it and shouldn't involve instances or areas with one in a thousand drops from 70 elite mobs, but it should still be challenging or a time sink - basically solo friendly for the average 70th level character.

The thing is, totally maxed out professions isn't that hard to do. A lot of people are mining/bs. Mining is 375 if you farmed your BS to 375. First Aid is 375 if you take instances the least bit seriously. Getting cooking to 375 is incidental if you level fishing.

Therefore, you're only talking about leveling two things to 375, whatever your crafting profession is, and fishing.

Face it, tradeskills are nowhere near the bore they are in other games. Blizzard decided the work end would be in finding the recipes, not in leveling pointless skillups.

Well fishing was certainly an SOB to skill up to 375 and LW wasn't easy or cheap either - I certainly felt a sense of accomplishment when I did it earlier this evening.
