I was fishing in Steamwheedle Port last night and after using my second lure, every single catch contained two fish.
I was getting two of the same fish, two different fish (even caught winter squid and summer bass in one catch) and 1 fish and a clam.
Is this normal?
I stayed there for an hour and filled my bags just in case it's not :D

Yeah, this happened to me too, but not as often, and I was trying to level my fishing, rather than catch certain types of fish, so I didn't care.

Yeah - I've had this happen in Steamwheedle port and Feralas also. It is great for getting food for my cat.
happens to me all the time in feralas. big surprise the first time but i got used to if fast. :-) now i'm bummed when i fish elsewhere and only get 1 at a time.

This has been the standard in Tanaris at least for about a month. I didn't see anything listed about this in the new patch, so it looks like it might stay a while.

I was getting tired of missing fish and/or not being able to fish in Outlands. My skill was around 320, plus +20 pole, +2 gloves, and lure, but still was having trouble. So, I decided it was time to head back to the old world to fish for a while and get my skill up. Well, Feralas is kind of a favorite of mine because of the fish types and the nice run of pools along the coast. I was guild chatting and fishing simultaneously, so I was just standing next to the dock at Feathermoon rather than running the coast. And obviously I notice I'm pulling two fish out at once. My thought at the time was it was that it was skill related but, sounds like it's zone related. It's definitely a good way to catch a lot of fish in a hurry. Eels, firefins, blackmouths, winter squid, summer bass, clams with the occasional pearl. Good times.

I just did some fishing in Lakeshire for the quest there to catch 10 sunfish. I got 2 fish half a dozen times. 1 was always a sunfish when I had a double catch.
It happened after that time when there wasnt ANY fish in Feralas, just empty loot screen.
I hope none is complaining?

Curiosity almost killed the cow...lol
I was curious and me being an avid fishercow and had to go check it out. Sure enough I was catching 2 fish on every cast. Only bummer, I haven't completed the Pat Neagle quest so I was missing a lot of fish. So I will complete this quest and go back.

confirmed. for the last month, steamwheedle off the pier is always 2 fish.
but since the latest patch, none of them are blackmouths, is it just me?

I agree merdur, when I did catch fish I was catching yellowtails and clams mostly. I did catch 1 mightfish and 1 eel. I fished the area for about 15-20 mins and caught 17 yellowtails. Guess I need to find the recipe to cook those now...lol

This is different than what the OP is talking about. There are several quests that require you to fish certain items, such as the Sunfish quest in Lakeshire. In these cases, the quest item is never the only thing caught, it always comes with a regular fish.
The OP is talking about areas where every cast will pull two catches.

The guy in steemwheedle port building sells just such a recipe =]
ok, so i found the oily blackmouths fishing by the fisherman in zoram'gar strand. just cast into the open water there and every third cast will pretty much be an oily blackmouth. some firefins will come up, but mostly crap lvl 5 fish, then every 3rd cast, an oily. sorry, only one fish per cast here.
last night, almost every cast was an oily in this same spot.
I noticed it changes daily. I could fish whole day today and catch tons of eels, yellowtails and so on but not single clam.
Then I come tomorrow at the same place at same time and I get clams in tons.
Then day after that I cant catch single eel but plenty of firefins....
