seems like a real PITA. 8 ore for 1 bar, have to go into BRD to smelt, caosts a bunch to even learn to smelt.

Are there REALLY good items to make with DI?

I have lots of ore, and about 60bars of dark iron... Im 69 now so really no reason to make anything with it other than to sell it.. i could make a set of dark iron plate to use just for fire resist.. the best thing is buy dark iron ore which sells cheap on ah, smelt it for bars which sells for tons of gold on ah..

take a couple hundred bars and just make smelting runs in BRD

If you're level 69, don't even bother with the dark iron plate for fire resist. Find a smith with Aldor faction and get some Flamebane armor made.

I can make all of it except the helm (and that soon) on Echo Isles, if you happen to be playing there.

To answer the original poster, I think that dark iron lost 99% of its desirability when TBC came out. The quest to learn to smelt/forge it is pricey in terms of mats, and to make anything of significance takes a lot of dark iron ore, and will be quite difficult to sell, as the green stuff dropping in Outlands is so superior to all blues and most epics old world.

now that the lvl cap is 70 and BSing cap is now 375, NO, DI is not worth it.

not to mention the faction grinding ness to make the good stuff out of DI.

Burning Crusades has made Dark Iron obsolete.
