Herbalism or Mining?Follow

#1 Apr 15 2007 at 7:46 PM Rating: Decent
I was wondering whether herbalism or mining would be better as a money making profession... I have skinning and herbalism right now, but I'm thinking of starting on a new realm soon. I've always thought herbalism would be worth more because while ores are worth more than herbs, you encounter herbs much more often than veins. Like for every vein you find you'll find three herbs. Also, do high level herbs sell well? I've heard complaints that some 375 herbs are almost impossible to sell...

I would also consider the fact that more than one professions constantly needs bars though. Just my 2c.

I would pick Mining. There seems to be more money in it. Sure there may not be as many veins as there are herbs, but what you get from those veins is worth more. From my experience (ive had a 375 herbalist, and a 375 miner) you typically get:

Herbs:
2-4 of that type of herb (in the 300-375 range)
1 Mote of Life every 4 or 5 herbs
1 Fel Blossom every 4 or 5 herbs

Mining:
2-7 ores (6-7 if it is a "Rich" vein in the 300-375 range)
1 Gem ever 4 to 5 ores
2-4 Motes of Earth every 4 to 5 ores
1 Mote of Fire every 4 to 5 ores
1 Blue Gem (Star of Elune... etc) ever 25-50 ores (these Blue Gems sell for about 40G on my server)

These numbers are not exact... just guesstimating from my experience.
