#1 Apr 13 2007 at 5:29 AM Rating: Decent
Hey all :)

Im trying hard to level my mining, im currently stuck at 258, ive got the +5 mining enchant on my gloves.
I can mine dark iron ore, but I have to go somewhere to learn how to smelt it ? and thats hard these days when people are flying straight to outlnads around level 60.
I can only mine small thorioum which is kinda rare.
Any suggestions ?

I was stuck around there too until I started doing a bunch of things in Un'goro. Lots of small thorium to be picked up there, you'll get a point everytime you find a deposit. Plus it's a big money maker.

I went from around 255 to 285 in about week there.

I agree, mining is annoyingly hard to lvl once i got to around 250 or so on it. I finally went to STV and started mining mithril in some of the caves when i could find it which took quite a while. Now I'm just trying to hang out in searing gorge to get thorium vein when i can, but like you said, they don't happen all that often...not real sure where else to go to get it higher (i've gotten up to 262 on my shammy)

i lvl'd thorium in ungoro just mount and ride the perimeter, you can hit about 5-10 nodes per lap. or if your high enough plaguelands is pretty good also. iddie.

I've found that if you're looking for Mithril, running laps of Tanaris from Gadgetzan around the border of Un'Goro and down along the southern border usually yields 5-8 veins, maybe some truesilver if you get lucky. For thorium the easiest thing I've found to do is actually not Un'Goro, it's the Burning Steppes. The steppes are much much more convenient to just pop in and mine for 20 minutes then return to whatever you are doing. You can run a circle from the refuge west along the mountains and avoid most mobs and up to the northern areas just before dracodar and back toward the refuge on the northern border and get probably 20-25 thorium ore and various amounts of mithril and dark iron ore every time you make the circle. That's at least what I've done when mining thorium, and I've mined lots and lots and lots of thorium that way. There's usually a good mix of small and rich veins there so you shouldn't have trouble leveling your mining either.

I agree. This is what i do. I am mining 365, but still need TONS of thorium to level blacksmithing.

Tanaris, hinterlands are probably better for mithril and small thorium veins. I found more rich veins in un'goro which requires 275 skill I believe. Dont worry about smelting dark iron, you won't get skillups off smelting anymore anyways.

You should look at felwood, many thorium veins found there.

Odd... I never had a problem with mining, in fact, I got 300 way before I got Lv58 to go through the Dark Portal... lol.

Anyways, I putzed around a lot in areas which had Green mobs, and mined lots of mining points. If you're 'stuck' at a level and can't find enough mining nodes to raise your level, try levelling up your character's level.

If you're stuck on, say, Mithril.. and you can't find enough Mithril... level up about 5-10 levels, and go where Mithril is common, like Badlands... here are some of my favorite spots:

Iron: Duskwood. Not the greatest place for Iron, but many people underestimate how much Iron this zone can produced. Don't forget the mountains in the center of the map... DON'T go into the center, there's a World Dragon that spawns there, and will most certainly eat you for lunch. No, I mean, go around the outer edge. Also, along the southern wall and up by Stalvan's House, and that Spider Cave, you will find Iron sometimes too. Also, Arathi Highlands is also decent for Iron.

Mithril: Badlands, you find a good bit of Mithril there. Best places are down south in the Ogre Mound, and near it in the mountains with the elementals. The Elementals also drop Solid Stones if you're levelling Blacksmith and doing Spurs.

Gold: I usually have the best luck in Arathi, though very rarely you will find this in Duskwood.

Truesilver: Desolace, and sometimes in Stonetalon Mountains, in Charred Vale. Also, Hinterlands has usually been good to me with Truesilver.

Thorium: Un'Goro Crater freaking Rocks. You find Small Veins there, like, Everywhere. Searing Gorge can also produce a fair amount of this, as well as Mithril.

As far as Dark Iron, my suggestion, is to ignore Dark Iron completely. Go ahead and mine it, but sell the Ore on AH unless you're part of a Raiding Guild, or somesuch that can help you get to BRD and the special Forge there.

Dark Iron can and will give you nice levels, just... forget about smelting it.

Burning Steppes is a nice place to finish levelling Mining. It has Mithril, Dark Iron, Truesilver, Small and Rich Thorium. Since TBC it's become a Ghost Town on my server. I shared the zone with very few people, just a load of bots, they keep the aggro off you for the most part, and don't seem to recognize chests.
Rich Thorium starts at 275, so you don't have far to go to get there. My usual route is twice around the outside, and then one trip around Dreadmaul Rock. Rinse and Repeat. Dont bother with Draco'dar and the Altar of Storms.

yea I had zero problem hitting 300 mining prior to going through the Dark Portal to the Outlands. Just level your character and mine whatever pops up on your mineral finder. Once you hit the plaguelands your mining will hit 300 in no time with all the thorium (and I recently saw tons of Truesilver there, was getting a stack of truesilver a day with normal questing and not farming)

with 3 professions using ore and stuff it's not that difficult to figure out that it's a decent moneymaker atm. good luck and listen to what the others' said. for the person who hit 160, find 5 more ore to level to 165 then buy another 10 gold ore to level to 175 to mine truesilver or was that mithril. in any case, good luck. pps. brd has a number of mines inside the instance. so if you're higher level, you can always run there

The badlands is a goldmine for iron, mithril, and gold ore. My 61 hunter can just trot around and pick it up, and you can make mucho dinero with it also.

The best advice I can give is grind mobs that are in caves.

Numerous zones have caves. And caves usually have 2-3 nodes that spawn regularly.

I was able to level my mining that way. I didn't make that much xp but the loot was good, so was the mining skillups.

If you think that it is hard to level mining now... just wait till the next patch... Blizz plans to increase the aggro when you are mining (much like treasure chests) and relocate the nodes closer to NPC paths. Level up now while you still can do it fairly easily!

Mining can be tough to level at times because of the long stretches where the deposits are green. I always ride around the outer edges of zones to gather up all the mining nodes that might be available. Also smelting the ores can really help you push it up to the next level. And if your rich, buy ore, smelt it, and resell it!

Check this link its the best mining site ive seen: http://wow-mining-guide.com

Sorry, folks, if this has been covered before. Just hit 60 and have been told that I can increase above my current mining level of 300 in the outlands. However, I have been unable to determine how I go about this and who to see. Guidance appreciated.

Thanks much!!

Mining 155 to 175 is a snap!

At 155 mining smelting gold is red. It was still yellow when I was 175.

Just buy a stack of gold ore and smelt it.

I did not miss one skillup and when done I had a stack of gold bars (if need be sell those on AH for what you spent on the ore) and 175 mining skill.

What could be easier?

Once you hit lvl 40 and get your mount, mining is fairly easy - if sometimes tedious - to level. I just hit lvl 49 and i'm at 300 mining skill already. Now I just need to figure how to get to Outlands and I can progress further :)

I find the best place for getting past 175 is Arathi - if you circle the map, sticking to the mountains, you usually come across a fair few mithril veins. Assuming your lvl 40+ the mobs shouldn't cause you much grief, even if your on you own. There is also a fair amount of gold and silver to be found here, plus stacks of Iron. You generally come across some Truesilver from time to time as well.

From Refuge Point, jump on the Griffin to Southshore and then run up to Alterac - round the mountains at Slaughter Hollow is usually good for a couple more mithril veins as well as some truesilver (more often than in Arathi).

After you've cleaned out that part, you can head up Chillwind Point and into Western Plaguelands. Even at low lvl, you can safely mine the veins that crop up on the hills surrounding the central lake - everything from Iron to Small Thorium Veins.

In the Hinterlands, there quite a few caves with Thorium in them, but you're probably better heading to Searing Gorge and Burning Stepps, those places are full of everything, including Dark Iron.

Spend a few hours farming and it's amazing how quickly the skill lvl creeps up - and the bank balance should you choose to sell all that hard earned metal :)
