I am currently 265 BS armorsmith. I am having bit of trouble leveling from here. I have about 2-3 red recipes, which are weapons and take lots of materials.

I can't get anything from trainer in Booty Bay until 275 (Arcanite) and I'm just curious what I should be leveling on, recipe wise. Should I look for recipes on AH or what?

I just finished regrinding BS over the weekend (well...up to 350).You are at the part that is extremely expensive and requires alot of thorium. If this is your first time grinding BS you can go to thorium point and get quests from the dwarves there to gain Imperial plate armor plans. These plans will take you to 300. If you dropped BS at some point then you must buy plans off the AH. The Thorium armor set and Radiant armor set is what you want there.

Anyway you do it, expect to have to burn a stack of thorium per skill point up to 300. If it makes you feel better going from 300 to 350 is much easier and less expensive.

Kheim is exactly right. 270 to 300 took me a really long time. I had a guild mate who was also working blacksmithing but was still using mithril. So any thorium he found, he sent to me.

As soon as you hit 300, stop making thorium armor and get the fel iron recipes from the blacksmithing trainer in Thrallmar (lvl 58 req since this is in Outland). Fel iron is VERY common in Outland and is therefore more cost-effective to use the new plans. I am at 335 now and any thorium that I mine up, I send back to the guy that helped me (he is now at that major hump too). This kind of teamwork really helps.

Cheers!

I should have mentioned one other thing. There are plans that use primarily thorium (the ones mentioned in Kheim's post). Stick with those. There was one item that I made a lot of that required 20 thorium bars, 4 green power crystals (found like herbs in Un'Goro Crater), and 8 rugged leather (bought all mine off AH). That was the cheapest item I could make for skill gain. I had to spend a little more to get from 295 to 300, but it is smooth sailing for a while after that.

Ever since TBC came out, enchanted thorium and arcanite is of little use (too hard to find enough arcane crystals) and the mats are too cost-prohibitive to use as a leveling skill. For example, one item that I can make requires 8 Azerothian diamonds. I have never found one of those and it would cost a mint to buy them on the AH (assuming to can find people who have some for sale).
