Farming gold for an epic fly-mountFollow

#1 Apr 07 2007 at 3:38 AM Rating: Decent
Recently been determined to farm money in order to buy an epic flying mount. Being 5k gold.

What do I do? Which profession is the biggest goldmine, what to farm?

I asked a guy who had an epic mount what he did. He suggested Herbalism&Alchemy. Is it a goldmine?

Your help is highly appreciated.

What trade skills do you have currently? What level are you now?

Two gathering type trade skills will bring in the most gold. Completing quests at 70 will yield lots of gold. Farming for rep items (Aldor/Scryer) will yield cash, cloth, and other items you can sell on the AH.

There are so many ways to bring in gold at 70. How did you make money for your other mounts? Take that knowledge and go with it =)

My friend play the same amount of time as me and when he hit 70 instead of doing instances and buying stuff he just continued to grind in Outland and within a week of a several hours a day he got his epic. I just cant do it, its too mind-numbing.

There is a link in my signature ffor making money in WoW from 1-60. In my experience, gold is as bountiful as water in Outlands. I really need to update my guide. Smiley: smile

Do any quests you possibly can in outlands that you havent done yet. I have netted roughly 2500-3500g since hitting 70 by going back and finishing quests in Outlands. After that, farm for primals or ore/herbs to get the rest of your money. Thats how i got my epic.

I'm a 360 alchemist. Just decided to go with tansmuting. Farmed all 4 of each primals in one day, now just need to wait 4 days and transmute one in every day. Then the quest will be done, then I can farm primals and make primal mights for 200g. With the chance I could proc, it could be kinkily profitable.

Meanwhile I will farm Netherbloom, Nightmare Vine and other herbs.

Wait. You are in a position to be thinking about your epic flyer, and still don't know a way to farm gold? Lvl 70 and don't know how to earn?

So where did you buy your toon from?

I agree quests and farming aldor/scryer rep items will yield lots of gold.

The question really is how badly do you want that epic flying mount?

Netherstorm has alot of farming spots. Apart from rep items, cloth sells well. You can also sell all your gathered items (skinning, mining, etc)

Forget about the selling crafted items. These cost more and the payoff isnt as good. Just break down you goal into smaller goals (50g a day or so) Before you know it, you've reached 5k already.

I will probably sooner have the gold to buy flying mount than find proper group to do DM for that annoying epic one.
Sigh.

I just bought my epic flyer yesterday. When I decided I wanted to go for the epic, I promptly dropped Herbalism, and learned Mining. There is so much more money to be made mining now. Reasons:

1. You tend to get more from the mines than you did from herbs (stone, motes of earth and fire, gems etc...)
2. Think about all of the new jewelcrafters that are buying ores and gems!!
3. They just sell for more money on the AH on my server than herbs.

So after leveling mining all the way up. I also did every single quest I could find once I hit 70. Most quest turn ins give you about 12G each, with some of the group quests up to 30G. By doing nothing but questing one Saturday, I made over 500G.

My other profession is Tailoring. So I would make Primal Mooncloth, Spellcloth, and Shadowcloth (all of them sell for about 60G each on the AH) and sell them on the AH, along with Imbued Netherweave Bags (~30-50G on AH). And within a couple of weeks, I was done. (I usually only play on weekends and maybe 1 week night.)

Hope that helps. And good luck!

5000 gold is alot of money, I think hes just asking for tips on the most effective way(s) to earn that much in a short amount of time.

As has been said above, there are many 10 minute quests in Outlands that generate 10 to 19 gold once you hit 70. (provided you have a basic flying mount of course.)

Plus they get you to the quests that provide instance prerequisites.

Not to mention leveling all sorts of weapon skills if not already done so.

I too hit 70 few days ago, and don't have any idea what's the best way to farm gold ( well first the quests ofcourse, but after that ). Never had to do that before, since I didn't have a lvl60 character pre-TBC.

BTW, if you do 50g a day, it will take you 100 days to get the money. 5000g is an insane amount of money. I bought my epic mount around lvl62 and burned all my money then. Going 62 to 70 I earned about 1k. So getting 5 times that seems so silly, that I'm not going to even try it. For once in my WoW career, I'm going to use my money to buy stuff from AH and just enjoy the money instead of saving up for the next mount ( which you need to do from lvl1 to lvl70, and which really really sucks ).

just going back and doing all the quests you missed from 60-70 should get you about halfway there, especially if you have a gathering profession to do along the way.

the gold reward, the xp converted to cash bonus, vendor trash (including useless gear rewards,) random green drops... it all adds up surprisingly quickly once you give it a shot.

the quest line to get the arcatraz key is prolly worth over 100g alone.

Even on my low populated server its overcamped.
There are other places where one can farm primals and I wouldnt say the droprate is so much worse.

I agree, you should definately farm primals.

I recommend primal mana they sell well on my server (I sold three for 50g) and have a good drop rate.

Finish your quests at 70. Do it zone by zone. You'll be surprised how fast you earn gold.

When you've exhausted your quests, you can farm:

rep items (scryer or aldor)
netherweave cloth
motes or primals

I'm still working on the quests myself. The key really is not to spend the gold you're making.

heres how i do it.. get a bunch of quests for where you are (for me, example, im in netherstorm). once you get all the quests u can from one town/area/etc, just open up your quest list, go to allakhazam (this site, duh!), type in the name, or part of the name for the quest, and just check for each quests coordinates, then, using cartographer, or a similar addon, mark the coordinates on your map in WOW, and there ya go. this should take you about 5 minutes to do, and have about 10 quests marked on your map. go to each location, get what u need, and move around the map to the next closest mark! there you have it. you'll be turning in 5-10 quests at a time! it may sound complicated at first, but you'll save SO much time, instead of wandering around trying to figure out what to do or where to go :)

edit: and yes, i have skin/herbing. i really only spend money on reagents, and mana pots, and maybe some other random things... ive done most of HFP, all of terrokar, all of negrand, most of zangarmarsh, pretty much all of blades edge quests, and am almost done with netherstorms. I have hardly touched shadowmoon yet, and i am at approximately 3800Gs. i will EASILY be making that 1.4k within shadowmoon, and, conveniently, get my epic flyer in there as well ^.^

originally, when 60 was the max, i didn't do much questing after that. i figured pvp gear was about the best i could do, so no need to go do quest gear rewards. and with no exp coming in, id rather spend that same time levelling up other chars to 60 who had something to show for the questing involved. not to mention, when the max level was raised, i would want those quests to help me start leveling again.

now that TBC is out, i see that there's even less reason to do those old quests. just go to outlands to start.

so having learned that, i think that the quests converting to gold reward is a good reason to do those quests at 70.

getting 1000g from 60-70 sounds like a lot and 4000g more sounds longer. but in fact, it's not, because at 70, you get more gold per quest done, and the drops are also worth more to the vendor, if not the AH. even as a skinner or herbalist, the items you get from those skills will (generally) continue to be worth more, depending on what you pick.

for these and many reasons, before you start to just grind stuff like cloth and gear drops because that's how it was done pre-TBC, consider to do these quests as others suggested.

I was 60 on BC release, and after 3 weeks of levelling hit 70 with 6000G. I'd started with about 1500 and an epic mount already though.

While everyone else was going craft-crazy to level JC, etc up to the new limit, I merely sold the skins, cloth and motes that were in extremely high demand.

My alt is now at 63 (was 38 at BC release) with over 2000G banked, from the sale of DE'd outland greens that no-one wants and Primal Mooncloths that get me over 100G every 4 days. Her kit is over 50% blue, from finding bargains at the AH, so I'm not putting her levelling at risk because of the need for cash either.

Hold any form of crafting til 70. Sell everything that drops - don't AH it more than once if it's a green, because the deposit outweighs the profit. Get a guildy to DE it for you. Use Auctioneer addon to keep your prices competitive.
