Maybe this is a stupid question, and\or an answer may be allready posted here somewhere, but I've looked through pretty well all of the tradeskill forums withough spotting anything...

My question is, is there a guide or listing somewhere of what can be prospected from each type of ore? Here on Allakhazam I've noticed that if you look up a gem it will tell you which ores it can be found in, but the reverse is not the case.

While I can't offer you a list of what ores produce what gems, I can offer you one possible solution: do a search on all the gems you know, and create your own Which-Ores-Produce-Which-Gems list. It may seem like kind of a daunting task, and you'll probably discover such a list just as you finish making your own, but at least you'll have done something that you can look back on and say, "Geez... What was I thinking..." And believe me, that sort of thing always makes for a funny story to tell the guys.

I'm not aware of such a guide, but you can look up the types of mining nodes to see what jewels can be mined. And so you'll get a general idea of what jewels you'll prospect from the respective ore.

For example, I looked up Mithril Deposit and see it has a chance to yield Aquamarine, Star Ruby and Citrine. So if you prospect Mithril Ore, you'll probably get the same jewels.

Ty Borkin, I had actually thought of that... I was just trying to avoid it lol :P

And Thermalnoise, ty very much, that's NOT something I had thought of doing and will get me the general results I was after :)

Here, I think this is what you are looking for. Prospecting.

I have found it to be fairly accurate except it doesn't list a gem that you can get from Mithril, "Black something of another", some gem I found was only used by alchemist for like one thing. But it has been a very rare find, I've actually found more Huge Emeralds that I have of this stone so I kinda understand why it isn't listed.

I'm not certain the rules on these forums on citing other sites as sources, especially a site that would be considered a competitor of Allakhazam in some ways. There is a site that has exactly the information you're looking for. I won't say it because I don't want to be banned or moderated on one of my only posts on here.

Just take a look at some of the other popular WoW sites. Look up the ore and see if there is information on prospecting odds. It's out there.

If you want, you can private message me and I will tell you what you need to know.

Not very helpful I know, but I wanted to encourage you to look at some other sites before taking the time to create an exhaustive list of your own.

I link non-Allakhazam websites if they provide information that I can't find here on Allakhazam. There is no rule against this.

One tool that is somewhat you are looking for can be found at
That'll let you know what gems can be mined / prospected from. Havn't seen the vice versa, but it will give you a pretty good idea of what you need to prospect for the gems you want. I could see someone coming up with something like Enchantirx to let you know the probability distributions...but that's probably down the road a bit.
Hope this helps.
