Alchemy...drop it ?Follow

#1 Apr 02 2007 at 10:28 AM Rating: Decent
Im new to WoW...I have this lvl 38 warrior...Artisan Cooking, First Aid, Fishing, Herbalism and Alchemy...I have no money for my mount...I was thinking dropping alch and get either mining or skinning. I dont use pots much really. Does it worth throwing all that effort to get artisan alchemy to the trash can and start over with mining/skinning...also which of those would u recommend ?

Depends what you want to do. You can simply put alchemy on "hold" and just sell your herbs. That would be your best bet as far as making mount money and not throwing away anything that you've invested into alchemy. Mining and herb together can be done, but it's recomended that you only take one of the other as you can only track mineral OR herb nodes on your minimap (1 at a time). Some people are very successful with both, but it's generally players at the high end who have devoted some time into mapping farming routs and know where all the nodes are even without the minimap. Skinning, while sorta profitable, really won't make you that much additional cash. To be honest, you'll make just as much money by farming humanoid/demon mobs for cloth drops as you would by farming beasts to skin (and you have no downtime to loot the cloth... but you do when you have to actually skin).

As a warrior you'll have a huge reliance on pots if you plan on doing end game PvE. It can save you both time and money if you can craft the pots yourself. However, you may see a bigger overall benifit by going mining + blacksmithing depending on what you want to focus on. End game there are some really nice crafted BoP blacksmithing items for armorsmiths and various weapon smith specilizations.

Take into account that herb + alchemy are probably the easiest 2 professions to power level once you hit 70 (for their respective classes anyway - gathering vs crafting). I can honestly say that I'd have no problem powerleveling both to 375 while spending money for only training and vials in a weekend of heavy play. If you want to drop one/both now... you can always level them back up later... that's going to depend on your personal prefrences. The only profession that's really on par with herbalism as far as money making is concerned is mining... atleast while leveling.

Alchemy i think is one of the most useful proffs, usually in BS, LW and such items you make are way to low for your lvl untill much later. In alchemy you can always use waht you make.

Personally you need to look into the potions that earn $$ on the ah, and take an active approach to making these.

IE - make swiftness potions, free action potions, ect. And any extra herbs you get along the way sell.

You should easily be able to afford your mount if you focus on doing these things for a few hours here and there.

I had the same dilemma few levels ago, seeing all the skinable corpses I leave behind, and how nice any kind of skin sells compared to herbs/potions. And I would never have to go out of my way and farm herbs that I need for the potions I use regulary.

But I so love my potions and I really feel big difference with them. 25 int means something for my mana pool, + damage and + spell crit are nice to have from simple potion, 500ish armor for cloth wearer is not so marginal, + 15 to all stats I find great buff. Not to mention having healing and mana potions available whenever I need them.

I was being laughed at for all my buffs/potions but I solo a lot and I can take down 2-3 adds without much hassle, something I dont think I could do so easy without being buffed as I am.

I'm an expert Alchemist, and I never made too much money with my potions. I think that was mostly because I gave all my elixirs/potions to the guildies. You can make money, you just have to check the AH and see what's selling good. Shadow Oil, Elixir of Shadow Power, Swiftness Potions for WSG weekends all seem to sell really well.

You have the same professions I had: alchemy, herbalism, cooking, fishing, first aid. I made thousands of gold - mainly through fishing. Personally, I find alchemy to be useful (although I don't know what Blizzard has in store for it...evidently raiders find it too useful ::sigh::). You need, what, a hundred gold for your L40 mount?

Sell fish. Turn kelp and blackmouth into free action potions while you fish. Fish the schools of Stranglethorn and Tanaris. You'll have your mount money in less than a week.

At your level, I had the same professions on my first character and made money via selling Blindweed and Fadeleaf I got in the Swamp of Sorrows for my mount. I don't know if it works anymore since BC but I know Fadeleaf probably still has some demand because Rogues need it for Blind. Anyway, keep the professions, but focus on selling your herbs for the time being.

I like Alchemy, from a caster's point of view, I liked having Alchemy to make my own mana potions and other needed potions for raids. When it comes to PvP though, it really isn't that useful especially with the Arena not allowing consumables. If you want to focus mostly on raids and PvE functions, Alchemy will serve you and your guild well especially when you have all of the flasks and elixirs they need. Plus, you can make some decent money about level 47-49 by collecting Ghost Mushrooms and making Elixir of Shadow Power that Locks need for their epic mount.

Alchemy is easy to level, so you can drop it now and go pick up mining or skinning. Leveling the gathering profession up will give you some very easy cash, and once it is leveled up it's easy to go farm some mobs and mine (or skin) while your at it.

Personally I think most crafting professions, with the exception of tailoring and enchanting, are a waste of cash until you are past 40. Tailoring and Enchanting however, can make you some great money. Since your a warrior tailoring and enchanting may not be as important as a second gathering skill.

Pick up mining or skinning, that's my two cents.

Blizz is making adjustments to make alchemy more needed in the game.

Yep.

Keep the alchemy and herb, and just sell the herbs until you have 5-10G. After that, buy/sell in the AH to make money or pick up disenchanting.

The people with the most gold don't make it from farming outside of cities. They do it by making a percentage off of everything they sell. Do the same, and you'll have your mount money in no time.
