Engineering. Is it Useless Now? QQ Warning.Follow

#1 Mar 28 2007 at 5:13 AM Rating: Decent
I have 2 60+ Engineers - One Gnomish and One Goblin. Both are Gnomes for that handy +15 Engineering skill. The Gnomish One is a warrior - I really wanted the Force Reactive Disk, back when it was the top shield. The Goblin Engineering (a Rogue) came about because I wanted the Goblin Jumper Cables XL, which USED to be only Buildable by Goblin Engs, but Usable by Both. Surprisingly enough it became craftable by both, just after I spent all weekend levelling Goblin. I also wanted to make and use Field Repair Bots, which are rather great when learning Bosses.

I could live with the lack of cool stuff to make as a Warrior, because of the Shield, the Bots and the Cables. There was some reasonably useful stuff for the Rogue. And there was always TBC to look forward to. Cool Stuff was bound to come.

To Today: TBC is here. I've checked Alla's list of Schematics and the Alder/Scryer lists. Nothing good in Gnomish for the warrior, apart from the Remote Mail Terminal, and apparently that's been removed. A few possibles for the Rogue tho - But She's Goblin and the better leather stuff is Gnomish.

Jewelcrafting seems to have superceded Engineering as the toymaker profession, and loads of stuff can be used by Non-Jewelcrafters.

I think that I now have a useless profession for two of my characters. I may be able to salvage the rogue and convert her to Gnomish. But I'm thinking "Why bother?" for both of them.

So: Here I am, QQing into my Blasting Powder. Where's my clip on device that turns a 1 or 2H weapon into a 1337 LihgtSayber, similar to an Enchant? Where's my Guardian Robot that Fires PEWPEWLAZORS? Where's my Craftable Epic Mount? Where's my Jet Pack that works like the Jump Cannon? Where's my Mount-mounted Machine Gun?

Why is everything exploding? Oh Noes!!!! My QQ's have reacted with the Blasting Powder!!! Kaboom!

Seriously Folks - Show me something Fantastic I make with Engineering, and give me something to aim for.

There was an information, plot, that the engineering will be revamped soon. Thus, i would advice to keep one toon with engineering, and reroll the second one into more profitable tradeskill. Probably gathering one.

i had a 315 engineering alt that i originally created to supply my hunter with mithril gyro shot. i learned the repair bot schematic also. but with much better ammo available to my hunter, and no real attention grabber in engineering she's now a tailor, ugh. iddie

This is my plan. I'm going to reroll mining on my 70 mage instead of engineering and keep engineering on my 70 lock (main) until I see the revamp. I don't play the mage as much as the lock so I figure it's not a big loss. Besides getting to 300 in engineering isn't really that hard.

I just reached 300 the other day on my gnomish engineer, and I hate to say it, but I agree with what you are saying.

I got the repair bot the other night, and Im really considering dropping engineering for enchanting. I realized I dont ever use ANY of my gadgets, and the two trinkets I use, one from the outlands and my shaman class trinket from ST are far more useful than any other trinket i have crafted over all this time. It was a rather large money/time sink.

I origionally picked up engineering because I was leveling a resto shaman the hard way and wanted a way to do some extra dps because I am lacking terribly.

But now I have found that I dont make any bombs, I dont use jumper cables, I dont have any use for any of my trinkets, and for the most part nothing is craftable for the use of other players. I had a dream for a few moments that the tinfoil cap was real, so possibly i would have a way to make an income...

Sorry engineers we are stuck, so suck it up, or move on... I think im moving on.

I understand that Engineering might be disappointing to all you folks in the endgame, but my level 58 Shadowpriest gets much more use out of 360 Engineering than she would out of 360 Tailoring or whatever.

She’s been wearing Power Amplification Goggles since level 55. They’re just *amazing* for that level, better than any pre-BC epic I can think of. All that stamina makes her a hard target in the battlegrounds, and her other toys are equally useful there. Her level 72 battle chicken and three dragonlings are all useful for throwing casters off their game and knocking rogues and druids out of stealth, and the Arcanite Dragonling can turn the tide of battle. The Rocket Boots and Net Gun are still darn useful in WSG, if somewhat unpredictable, and if I have the foresight to have the right reflector equipped, they’re completely deadly. The Shrink Ray is still a pain for melee opponents, and the Poultryizer is a great counterhealer weapon, as well as being a huge frigging chunk of stamina. And all those Fel Iron Bombs and Adamantium Grenades I made to level up have been tremendously useful in PVP.

Short form of the above: Engineering gives you access to items more powerful than you could normally use at your level, that is until you’re in the 60s somewhere. I can’t cry too hard about it yet.

Since i NEVER pvp, I guess it is completely useless to me.
If i for some reason got an urge to PVP i would with my hunter long before my shaman... I dont know what else to pick though... Kinda disheartening.

blizz still hates engineers?

67 orc hunter with 330 engineering

is there ANY reason to keep this P.O.S. profession? death ray was cool (40 levels ago) jumper cables are about the only trinket i get any use out of anymore

spent around 300g making an arcanite dragonling, that isnt much better than the mithril dragonling... please correct me if i am wrong, i only used the dang thing twice before i got too pissed off to use it again [is there an actual difference?]

then there is the mana pot and health pot injectors (clearly sharing the same cooldown as the pots)

I never use more than a stack of pots in a session, so stacking 4 stacks in an expendable (somewhat expensive) trinket seems useless

no noticable decent scryer or aldor rep schematics (or any other rep in the game)

i am so effin pissed about blizz's apparent hatred for engineers... anyone see anything coming in the future that might change my mind?

please dont tell me about these 'bad assed' epic goggles, because IF they can be made for the 400000g that it will require, i dont know if a +.01 stam and +.01 agil buff is worth it (yes i am synical, but also very agro'ed)

any advice please?

Mote Extractor.....thats a good one.

The sad thing is the "Revamp" may be limited to a new set of goggles for each class.

Still love the trade I still make goblin landmines, I still make tonk contolers, I still love mana/HP injectors, yet here is my list of amazing reason for ME to keep the trade

Gnomish Power Goggles, Ok the MATS are INSANE, but they are cool

Nigh-Invulnerability Belt, Awesome when you are a lock and need to do some AoE spells.

Gnomish Poultryizer, bang for the buck the discombobulator is better, but Freeking Chickens!!!!!! thats awesome(I get to pretend i am a part mage)

The Bigger One: rediclous mats, but all too fun

Gnomish Flame Turret:too expensive, but soooooo fun when takeing your buddies though ZF temple event.

Catseye Ultra Goggles(some stuff never gets old, namely finding druids and rogues)

My Shadowpriest Ruin still loves Engineering. She's level 59. Her Power Amplification Goggles, lvl 72 Arcanite Dragonling, Gnomish Poultryizer, and other gadgets are way more than fun toys. They give her a devastating edge in the 50-59 battlegrounds.

When the content patch comes out, she'll make two pair of epic goggles--one for healing, one for DPS--socket them, and be set for headgear until she can run the Black Temple.

Engineering's fine.

hello there, well, i have engi to 300 and i like the way it is. Of corse i would like some few changes but i have fun for a while as it is.

What i like are: Jumple cables , deepdive helm, Net o matic (love this one badly), Bombs, bullets, guns and also other trinkets. Btw i love to pvp.

What i am upset about engi is the chance of failure of some trinkets, witch i think should be lowered quite a bit. Apart of that, i think engi is fine.

WAIT WAIT WAIT
Dont do what I did and junk 300+ engineering for skinning. Just read the new patch notes and engineering seems to be getting a boost. 10 new googles, including plate. Also fused wiring will now be craftable. Dont give up just yet.
#14 Apr 19 2007 at 8:58 AM Rating: Decent
Huh? I checked AH right now and JC XL are NOT craftable by gnomish engineers.

i had about 4 chars which were able to cover most of the professions i was interested in. imo all are useful and good if you use it to benefit yourself. if you use it to make money or for pvp only, you may find some disappointment.

eg, back before TBC expansion, any thorium i mined up with my miner would not be used for bsmith stuff (didn't have a bsmith). instead, i'd use it with my alchemist, enchanter, and engineer. all of them could use a bar of thorium and turn into some more useful, and more profitable, to me.

if you have engineering up to 300+ already, i would suggest to hold onto it. find a way to make it profitable for you. that doesn't necessarily mean making a 375 skill item and hoping someone buys it for 200g. if sniper scope continues to be profitable, make these when you get the mats.

If you absolutely don’t like buying stuff because you like to think you farmed everything and you got it for free, then your engineer making bullets for your hunter is still a good idea. Do you have a hunter yet? Again, make the characters and tradeskills useful for you first, then you’ll be happy to have them regardless of what changes goes on. I like cooking and do it for all my characters. The benefit of being able to use raw meats that I already get anyway from questing or farming helps me from having to buy vendor food.

Benefit yourself first, be it something your other characters can use or something you can sell for profit.

Yes, the Arcanite is significantly tougher to kill (AOE being the main bane of the engineering pets), gives a flame debuff that helps fire mages immensely, and is on a different timer than the Mithril, so you get twice as much use out of them.

As a 59 with level 72 dragons and chicken in the BG, I humbly opine that they're far better than Perception. Hey...is there a rogue in here? [release chicken] Yep, he's waaaaay over there, gettin' pecked.
#17 Apr 22 2007 at 7:43 AM Rating: Decent
sounds like a henpecked rogue.
Seriously though they should make an er defibiliator. (no miss or 10% chance to miss jumper cables) for 370 or 365. I don't see much benefit in making fused wireing craftable. it's easy enoug to farm them with mats if you know how to.

on my server frostmourne, it was +-4g pre bc with all the experienced players out there. even if people used it for repair bots or the like it was still easy to make. 10g of mats would usially give a return of 3-4 wires.
