my main is a lvl 40 human warrior with skinning/herbalism. i'm saving up for my mount and have another 20g to go. although running through STV nets me a lot of heavy/thick leather and plenty of herbs, the grind to 90g has got me feeling really impatient for an increased rate of income. is it a good idea or a bad idea to roll a new alt exclusively for enchanting/disenchanting? does enchanting/DE have any minimum character level requirements? i'm thinking of doing lower level dungeon runs (i got whooped in DM on a botched pull, 3 caster elites and 5 regular mobs XD) for greens to DE, in addition to skinning/herbalism, so i can DE greens for shards/essences/dusts and sell them at AH as a pseudo-gathering profession.

i would consider mining, but you have to fight to get to some of the nodes (like herbalism).

well you have to be at least level 5 to learn professions. Since the 1.12 patch (I believe) or maybe it was 2.0 that there are skill requirements with disenchanting items, so you would have to have your enchanting at 275 (I believe) to be able to DE everything in the game -- which comes to be pretty expensive.

My advice: get your mount and have a bit of money, then worry about leveling up the DE alt to 20 so you can at least PL the enchanting to 225 to do through lvl 64 items.

Blizz put a level cap on what can be DE'd a few patches ago. So a new character would be able to DE up to a certain point, but then you'd have to level up your enchanting to be able to DE higher level stuff. I'm not quite sure on the skill required to DE certain things, but if you click the disenchant button and hover it over the item, it will tell you the level required to DE. An enchanting mule isn't a bad idea, but you might have to invest some gold into getting it a decent enchanting level. Also, you wouldn't be able to DE bop things you get on your main. Just a few things to consider.

yes, i figured this would obviously only apply to BOE items. i was kinda peeved yesterday when i picked up taskmaster axe from sneed's shredder in DM, thought i might be able to AH it, then realized it was BOP.

after i get my mount, WW weapon and decent greens... full speed ahead with the DE PL'ing =)

This is offtopic but btw, deadmines IS NOT abbreviated DM, that's Dire Maul and unless there's level 20 elites in dire maul, don't abbreviate deadmines DM. It's called deadmines, but the instance is abbreviated VC for van cleef. Always peeves me when people are like, searching for DM and then a level 20 pops up and says, Me Me!

I didn't know people "Always" LFG/LFM for DM.

I can count the number of times I've seen a "LFG DM" or a "LFM DM" on one hand.

I think that Deadmines is far, far more popular than Dire Maul will ever be, lol.

Expensive? What a trash comment. An alt disenchanter will make gold while levelling. And not just small amounts of gold, either. If you limit yourself to disenchanting greens and BoE blues that your main charcter picks up, that statement might be true, but you don't have to limit yourself that way. Disenchanting cheap greens and blues (from the AH) will not only make a tremendous profit, it will also provide any mats necessary for levelling. Anyone who calls Enchanting an expensive profession to level has no idea how to use the profession to its full extent and should be ignored.

Then stop being a lazy nob and put in Dire Maul. Deadmines get that title because it was there first.
