#1 Mar 26 2007 at 8:55 PM Rating: Decent
I am very lost about pick pocketing. I am not sure how to do it. I am level 10 this is the first time I have done this. I go in stealth mode, but then when I click on my bag it says invalid target.

soo what am I doing wrong???

You can only pickpocket npc enemies that are humaniods. I.E. you can't pickpocket your friends which would make rogues the scourge of Azeroth and no wolves and boars don't have pockets.

Is it possible to pickpocket really decent items? I’ve been tempted to level up my rogue (currently 2nd level) with the intention of pickpocketing some uber weapons and armour from people but have never really been sure how it works. Can I pickpocket someone’s weapon off them before a fight starts and thus leave them fighting me unarmed? Can I pickpocket their armour right off their back? Or am I restricted to small items that are “in the pocket”?

Pickpocket usually yields some coin (copper at lower levels, silver later on), some potions (getting super healing potions frequently on my 68 Rogue), some gems (started with malachite and other types, now on to flame spessarite and other outlands gems), locked boxes (containing some coin, some vendor trash, some poison ingredients/powders, rarely a potion/gem/scroll/recipe)

At level 68, pickpocket has given me :
- All the Super healing potions I will ever need
- More Blinding and Flash powder than I can use (unless I sell on the AH)
- A maxed out lockpicking skill every level (I save 5 orange difficulty chests in bank/on alts for that next level up, opening the others, if they're yellow I keep 10 instead)
- A nice bonus cash prize
- Some mats for jewelcrafting
- Lots of vendor trash (Gnome Effigy, Shiny Bauble, Shark Bait, etc)
- Enough poison mats that keeping myself stocked with stacks of poisons costs me at most 2g per level (for vials/some mats I am not lucky enough to get)

In other words, picking pockets rocks (and only doable on Humanoid/Demonic mobs that have pockets and Slimes)

Are there any dangers with it? Say if I pickpocket someone and they realise what I'm doing, do they go hostile and attack me? (I remember pickpocketing someone in Baldur's Gate 2 once and turning half the city against me.) Also can I pickpocket someone more than once - i.e. does the stuff you can pickpocket from them "respawn"?

Unfortunately, pickpocketing is not a trade skill. you really need to post this on the rogue forum.

Also, many rogues do not know that you can pickpocket slimes. You can make a fair amount of extra change by pickpocketing a humanoid or slime before killing them. You then collect more change once they are dead. :)) Double the loot. Just last week I was able to pickpocket 5 gems from instances in the outlands. As a note, if you are detected, hit your vanish abilility to drop the mobs aggro and disappear. Hopefully your tank and party will not jump the gun and attack. You may want to remind them of this ability before you approach the mob- just in case you are detected. IIt helps to throw your distract and make them look the other way, but is not 100% reliable. I usually distract, sap and then pickpocket when I am in groups/instances. Hope this info helps. :))

My favorite item so far that I've picked up at lvl 15 is A Frayed Knot.

ShyressaWOW, you can't pickpocket NPCs that are not at war with you.

The targets you can pickpocket are usually already hostile towards you, exceptionally you can turn on the "At War" flag in your reputation tab and pick the pockets of neutral mobs (like the timbermaw furbolgs in the caves separating Winterspring, Moonglade and Felwood, or the goblins before you rep up to friendly with them).

Also, Mike is correct, you will get better answers from more knowledgeable people in this forum instead.

One thing to note is that you can also pickpocket many Undead mobs: all the Undead mobs in Ashenvale, and others. Plus, you can always emote to scare people who know little about Rogues!

/e slips his hand into your pocket and takes out a few coins.
