Hello all, I know there is an Armorsmithing Vs. Weaponsmithing thread stickied, but this is different. I am a Master Swordsmith, working to get my Blazeguard.

Now, I think that armorsmithing is not too useful, and I have my reasoning.

It is this: As an armorsmith, your special item is the Bulwark of Ancients. Now this is a chest piece, so if at any point you start to raid, this piece will be replaced by a chestpiece from a set, so that you can get the set bonuses. I know not everyone raids, and fro some people the Bulwark of the Ancients is one of the best chest pieces you will ever see. However, there are also smaller sets from 5 man Heroics.

I think weaponsmithing is a much more viable profession because you will pretty much always be using your special weapon, unless you find a better one, which is inlikely unless you start to raid Black Temple or whatever. The Blazeguard is the best tanking weapon avaiable to me now, and it will not be replaced by a tier 4 piece or whatever to get the set bonuses.

well if your concerned about the end game and are very commited (good luck btw heh, this will be time consuming) to getting the teirs, then yes, go for weaponsmithing. Also weaponsmithing is sellble to all players where armorsmithing is avaible to just warriors and paladins. Although armorsmith make bank on just selling plate anyways.

Warrior set bonuses suck for the most part, the 5 piece, so there is no guranetee that you'd want the full set of Tier 4 or Tier 5 DPS gear (tanking, yes, you would, but the Bulwark is DPS so the tanking sets are not part of the discussion).

Also, you need the tokens to get the pieces. You're in competition with 3 other classes for each token.

A warrior in a raiding guild is a tank, so you're priority with the tokens is getting the Tanking version of the Warbringer and Destroyer armor over the DPS version. And chances of you being able to pick up 2 chest piece tokens are pretty slim.

So guess what, you still need a nice DPS chest.

The fully upgraded Bulwark of Ancient Kings is the best warrior DPS chest in the game currently.

So just because you are raiding does not mean you wouldn't want the Bulwark.

Also, it's easy to come up with weapons from raiding. Armor pieces aren't as easy to come by.

So the reasoning of the OP is just kind of faulty, not taking into account all the situations.

Basically, when raiding, a warrior's priority is the tanking set first, then the DPS set. And the chances of being able to compile a full set of both? Slim to none.

Makes sense. However I am not going to be tanking, I'm going to be PvPing for the time being. So WS was good for me.

Hmm. I took up armorsmithing without knowing the full need at higher levels! I also thought there were alot more armor pieces than weapons to make(and therefore there might be more niche markets), but weapons = used by all while armor = used by pallys and warriors only. I obviously didn't think it through.

Damnit.

There is also Shamans and Hunters to consider for armor smiths, unless I'm totally wrong Armor smiths do have mail item to craft as well. (granted I'm still under 300).

The Mail pattern is great for Hunters, not so much endgame Shamans.
