I need some advice on whether to drop leatherworking or not...

im a 255 skinner, so i thought naturally i'd take up leathworking but i feel that its not a good profession. Im currently at 107 leatherworking and not seeing any profit, should i change professions? (should i go with mining?)

Leatherworking isn't going to be very lucrative in the beginning. You just have to stick with it and it will be eventually in higher levels. If your character needs leather armor then I'd suggest staying with leatherworking, but if not then I'd suggest picking up another gathering skill like herbalism or mining. That way you can earn some gold fast, the ony problem is that your professions don't directly benefit you. It all depends on your class and play style.

LW seems hard to make a lot of money like a gathering profession.

One thing you can do is specialize. Get the pattern for the Deviate Scale Belt. The scales are hard to come by, so you either have to buy them at the AH or spend time grinding the WC for them, but they can sell for a lot of money. 5 gold or more. That's what I do. I don't sell a lot of the belts, but the money is enough to supplement the gathering I do on my alt so I'm not usually short on cash.

If your skinning is at 255 and your leatherworking is only at 107, you obviously won't find much use for it....

Get it to the same level and make your own armor. If you still can't find items to make money off of and can't find the benefit of making your own armor enough of a reason(combined) to keep it, get rid of it.

I have a lvl43 Druid with 285 Skinning and 210 Mining. I also have a lvl22 Lock with 206 Leatherworking and 190 Enchanting.

The way I've found Leatherworking makes money is this: I use my Druid to grind for mats then I send the mats over to my Lock. I use the Lock to make items I've found to sell well in the AH. I've noticed that Barbaric Bracers, Green Whelp Armor and Thick Murloc Armor all sell pretty well.

Stacks of Armor kits sell quite well too as there's always someone interested in bolstering their armor levels.

The things as I see them are like that:
As a gatherer, you are simply a farmer. You can make nice cash, but it is mostly boring and not very rewarding. Worse, if you are in a group/raid and some epic pattern drops, you almost never get it.
As a crafter, you have the chance of getting your hands on something unique and making it and selling for quite a profit. Even just getting your skill to max is quite a challenge and a big part of the game.

So if you want easy cash, gathering professions are the best. If you want something more out of it, learn a craft.

I have an alt that skins for my main also. And as mentioned above, the Thick Murloc Armor is a great seller. Again, the mats can be hard to come by, at least on my server, but you can make good money on it. Any Green or Blue item you can learn to make definitely learn it.

I have a 375 skinner and a 353 elemental leatherworker. Selling th earmor kits has always provided a teady stream of income for my priest. Also being able to skin at teh higher levels is very lucrative. In Molten core you can pick up Core leather which sells for alot of gold, you can skin Oynxia for the Oynxia scale that everyone will need to make the Onxyia scale cloak...pattern for it drops off Oynxia too. Those cloaks sell for 260 to 360 gold. Also, any blue leatherworking pattern will sell well on the AH, I was making stromshroud sets for people and did not have to fram the mats. I anounced in Chat that I was Crafting Stormshroud and they came running. When you announce that you are "Crafting" shift click the items that you can make and see if you get any tells do it regularly when you are in a major city. Such as IF and Exodar. You need to understand that even it you can only make lower items the lower item that you can make are very good for lower toons that want to improve their gear. Even the green dragon scale stuff sells great. The things in the game are not necessarily better than what you can make so just make them and put them up on the AH for a reasonable price. If you make 4 pairs of nice green leather pants for lvl 18 and sell them for 25s each you make a gold. It adds up. Also if you put leather patches on the items you make to boot the armor up, It will make it more appealing over competitors too. So just DO IT, and you will learn what sells and what does not. I have an enchanter too. sometimes when I make a good chestpeice, I send it to her to put + mana or health on to increase it value but I also send her the greens and blue I make that do not sell. She disenchants them and sends me back the mats which I sell for more sometimes. especially higher items. So, If you have already put the time in to get to this level don't stop now is my advise. I did change from skinning to enchanting right before the expansion came out and within a week I realized the serious mistake It was. I am now maxed at 375 but I skinned like crazy to get there. It took me almost 2 weeks to get back up above 300 so I could skin in Hellfire and I had to get a +5 skinning enchant to gloves to be able to skin the beginning mobs there.
