Question about profsFollow

#1 Mar 19 2007 at 5:42 AM Rating: Decent
I'm a level 26 warrior on Auchindoun and lately, I've found that blacksmithing/mining (125/130ish) aren't exactly the easiest to level. I'm wondering if i should drop blacksmithing because it isn't anywhere near useful yet and it'll take quite some more time till it becomes useful, to take up another profession like maybe skinning for $$ or enchanting to help buff my gear.

I have about 10g right now, which for me, is like an all time low...

Thanks,
Himura (Auchindoun)

No, don't drop blacksmithing, you will want to level it when you're 70 (high end BS weapons are among, if not the best in the game) and there's no reason to get rid of it only to take it up later again.

My advice is to just stop trying to level it. Continue to mine and sell the ore (don't smelt it) and you should have plenty of income. Take up fishing/cooking to help you income as well.

If your blacksmithing hasn't been useful for you, you haven't been keeping it up to par. Having it at a level where you can make armor 2-3 levels above you would be my advice, since you'll only find a real use for it then(other than making it for friends/alts).

If you do keep smithing, my advice would be to start up a bank alt, get him to a major city, and start sending him all the things you smith. As a crafting profession, blacksmithing CAN make you a steady stream of income, you just have to find out what you want to sell. On my server, I've found that I can make money by making enchanting rods, Whirling steel axes, and Green Iron Helms(I think that's what it is, a lvl 27 helm), just to name a few. I buy all the mats from the AH, and still manage to make between 50S and 2G on every single piece.

It won't get you rich in a day, but if you find items you can craft for profit after AH costs for mats, you can sell those and throw whatever money you make back into smithing to further increase your skill and pocketbook. Planning is the key though, and buying mats(even small amounts of them at a time) when they are at their lowest price for future use is the best advice I can give.

To end this rather long post, I do remember at that around that point in mining it gets super hard to level(at the point where you can't smelt for skill-ups). Just keep at it, and you'll get over the hump soon enough.

Ok, there are 3 patterns that realy come in handy for skilling up and making money that you can do right now at lvl 130 BS.

Deadly bronze poiniard, silvered bronze shoulders and ironforge breastplate.

If you dont have access to those, pearl handed daggers can be used, but they are a bit harder to sell consistantly from my experience.

If you price them right, you should be able to sell 2 of each at a profit per day depending on your servers population. None of them are used by people powerleveling BS (unless they are stupid), and all of them are equal to if not better than comparable green items in their level ranges.

You should be able to make 3-5g per day just on those. If your mining your own mats, double or triple that ammount.

You will also want to make yourself some heavy sharpening or heavy weighstones until they are green. As a blacksmith, you should never spend a minute questing without a +2 damage buff or better on your weapon, and you might have already picked some heavy stone up while mining.

Hope that helps.

Cool, thanks for the advice. I don't really want to take time off to just farm mats to level BS, and right now, the economy isn't exactly stabilized yet since my server just came out a couple months ago, so I guess i'll try to level my mining and keep the ores in an alt. When the time comes, i guess i'll ship those ores back and make some stuff to resell on the AH.
